KATU - Portland, OR : Boy, 6, killed helping dad with wood chipper | National & World News | KATU.com - Portland News, Spo

Not sure why you got thumbed down, I think your comment is right on the money, Though this is a tragedy, this should NOT have happened. I would NEVER let my child put ANYTHING into a wood chipper let alone unsupervised. Those things are dangerous even for trained adults. The father's poor lack of judgement just cost him one of his sons, and he can NEVER be replaced. Very tragic indeed

KATU - Portland, OR : Prison inmates given pet cats | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traffic Weather

Contrary to popular belief, the Dept. Of Correction's job is NOT to babysit these criminals, it is to REHABILITATE THEM so that they can live a life free of crime. Meaning less crime victims. The fact that this is a Larch Mountain Correction Work Camp means that these "criminals" have EARNED the right to be there by their behavior in other correctional facilities. We are not talking career criminals who are in Walla Walla. If this program helps rehabilitate someone and motivate someone to make better choices in life, WHEN they get out, then I am all for it.

You mean "says"? Really is that the best you can come back at me with? Look my whole point is to show that man's "scientific theory" of how old the earth is, is flawed, and this "new development" proves the point that man really has no idea. Plain and simple. You can choose to put your faith into man's flawed system, I will choose to put mine elsewhere.

Carbon Dating is their THEORY as to how long something is. As I said There is no rock out there that says "Made 20billion years ago"

I disagree. If MAN's "scientific theory" keeps changing because they keep finding new things that challenge their original beliefs, further proves that they, the "scientists" really have no clue on how old this Earth is. Let me educate you on how their theory works, They dig up a rock... that rock does NOT have a "Made in China 20 billion years ago" stamp anywhere on it. They look at the ground, so many layers are above the said rock, they put together a "THEORY" as to what each layer means, and and how long each layer is, then they add it up. The key word is "THEORY" meaning "GUESS". Thus they have no clue.

Because yesterday they were "certain" that the T-Rex was a scaly reptile, now they think something completely different. I am not questioning whether or not dinosaurs existed or not. I am questioning the fact that if these scientists believed that the dinosaurs to be one way, then a different way the next day, how can their theory of the Earth being "billions and billions" of years old, hold up to anything?

This is going to be a bit troll sounding, but this just goes to show that the people digging these bones up and "researching" them really have no idea and are just throwing out guesses. And these are the same people who will say that the Earth is Billions and billions of years old. Come on guys, they really have no clue.

KATU - Portland, OR : Longview, Wash. lands on Forbes \'prettiest towns\' list | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland Ne

Yeah, I am not sure if I can agree with Forbes on this one. Sure Longview is pretty, at night, and across the river in Oregon at that high lookout. And sure the City lake/park is pretty, but really? Their roads are crap, you have to dodge meth house after meth house just to get to the park, and in MOST of it's neighborhoods, you'd have to line up about 10 different people just to get one full mouth of teeth. The reporter must not have asked anyone to smile while they were in Longview. :/

KATU - Portland, OR : Wash. losing 26 weeks of unemployment benefits | Business | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traffi

Why is this not being reported, State unemployment ratings are dropping, but the amount of new job growth does NOT mesh with with loss in the Unemployment ratings. Simple fact is, that after people have exhausted their unemployment benefits, they are kicked off of the Unemployment (thus showing a drop in unemployment rating-but NOT job growth). There is still record numbers of people out there who are unemployed

But in this economy where there is a lot of people who live paycheck to paycheck, and given the fact that the driver has an older Honda SUV, I think it would be safeto assume that the driver chose to have the higher deductible i.e $1,000 vs $500 to have lower monthly insurance costs... Now With that scenario, who has an extra $1,000 laying around to pay for the deductible? I sure don't. And I hate to brake it to you but any time you make a claim on your insurance, those rates go up, regardless of who was at fault.

Geee I wonder who's insurance is going to pay for the damages, and who's insurance premiums are going to go up as a result??? No charges or citations were announced?!?!?! The SOB ran a red light!!! WTH is up with the double standard???

My heart just breaks for those 2 little boys. First loosing their mother, now their lives. I think it should be standard procedure that "supervised visits" be in a controlled environment. Will that prevent all future incidents like this? No, but it will prevent a lot more of them. As a father of 2 little boys I cannot understand who or why a father(given that this man was NOT a father, but rather a sprerm donor) could or would doing anything like this... :(
