SixStringLounge : A little survey

1. Older 2. Just started playing. 3. Great layout, white text on top of pages can be hard to read at times. 4. If I'm learning from it, I'm reading it. 5. Sure, connecting with like minded folks is cool.

SixStringLounge : Guitar for the Absolute Beginner, # 1: Make a practice plan to ensure your success

I definitely claim the the title of "absolute beginner" and at the risk of exposing my total ignorance, can you explain what music theory is? As for the plan, its exactly what I need otherwise I'm all over the place. Also, I am looking for a teacher, any suggestions on what to look for in one? Sorry for all the questions, its just that when I get into something, its all or nothing and I really want to finally learn how to play.

SixStringLounge : Guitar for the Absolute Beginner: How to play guitar in 30 days

Dan, thanks for the advise. I know that many people "give up" when it starts to hurt, so I don't want to overdue it. At the same time I want to make the best effort. But really thanks on the guitar question as you've answered the exact question I had. I will give it a try for the 30 days and see how it plays then decide my next steps.

We have so many instruments around my house, guitars, piano, drums, winds, even a set of bongos. And I can't play any of them. So, I am going to give this a solid effort for a full 30 days and see where it gets me. Couple of questions: How long should I practice, min/max? When beginning, does it matter as to the quality of the instrument? I have a 25 yr old, "Sigma" by Martin?

SixStringLounge : Best guitar solo of all time?

I'm going to base mine on who I actually saw live: 5. Richie Blackmore-"Highway Star" Saw solo Richie, Not Deep Purple Richie, Still just plain powerful. 4. Randy Rhodes-"Suicide Solution"-Ozzy-His talent went beyond Rock. Could have been the greatest. 3. David Gilmore-"Comfortably Numb"-Pink Floyd is my favorite all-time band. Live "Wall" Incredible! 2. Eddie Van Halen-"Eruption"-Just never seen anyone play the way he does. Innovative. 1. Jimmy Page-"Stairway to Heaven" Zep was my first concert and I was totally in awe. Most Influential: Jimi Hendrix-Star Spangled Banner; symbol of the sixties.
