Umm.... does this mean that those security cameras they have don't work? Because I don't remember ever being in a c-store that didn't have at least 1 camera over the register. In most cities, businesses open past midnight are actually required by law to have a working camera in place. That and most insurance companies require them too.

But Cedar Rapids was well-known for many years for running speed traps along 380. Of course, they had their helicopters back then.

A lot police are also against the cameras... but know it's not politcally safe for them to admit to it. They know that politicans are attempting to substitute patrol officers with cameras. So much for public safety.

Let's remember that a camera can't catch a drunk driver before he kills someone. A camera can't smell the weed on the driver that can't stay in his lane. A camera can't see the backseat is full of stolen goods. These are all things that only a real police officer can do.

I thought all these politicans promised to create jobs and help small businesses. Now less than two weeks after Election Day, they are already going back on their word.

The school needs to act quickly before the Historic Society heards about this and tries to step in. Then they'd want to run about a dozen "impact studies" and "public forums." Then they still wouldn't have a plan... so they would try to "educate the public" about the historic significance of the smokestack. In the end they would rather level the school and protect the smokestack, because that would make more "historic" sense.

By then the thing would have fallen over on its own.

Having a gun under the counter usually only leads to clerks getting themselves shot. Also there isn't an insurance company out there that would allow a store to arm themselves.

Personally, I think that CRPD has a generic fom they use with the phrase "suspect(s) was a black male approx. 5'7" - 6' tall." Of course it might just be that the Gazette and TV9 don't like to report all the white originated crimes. (Let me check with Kanye West.)

FYI... I've worked in food service/retail for 20+ years and have never seen a cash register that could be bolted down. Yes, you can chain some down. But you're still better off just using a drop safe and throwing every check and bill $20 or higher in to the safe. It's called reducing your "robbery attraction."

The state of Texas already has their own network. LoneStar Television is an in-state only network that spans all of Texas. It's not exactly a Big12 network but it a Texas network.

It's ironic that Casey's has been growing largely due to "friendly" takeovers over the last several years. From buying up single stand-alone stores to small chains like the CR's owned HandiMart and the Nebraska Gas N Shop. Now, a much larger player in the C-store industry is looking to buy them up. Casey's has something like 1400 stores in the midwest, but ACT has 6000 stores across North America... under a variety of names including Circle-K.

What a pathetic story. The Gazette should have at least added some research to this. They should have pointed out a role nutrition has in educational development. Not to mention that recent studies have shown many families that would qualify for free or reduced lunches don't apply out of embrassment. Or how a bill that would reform the federal school lunch program is currently stuck in committee. The bill would modernize the expensive out-of-date application process and save tons of money. See a big chunk of that federal funding is spent on processing paperwork then what's left over is used to pay for food.

My favorite is his claim now that all FIVE seperate lawyers that represented him were bad. Yeah, Bobby... you burned thru five lawyers because there's no one that can get you off the hook. And so far he's managed to blame everything on everyone but himself. He spent 3 hours ranting about how everyone else is to blame. What an ego this guy has! I'm guessing that next up he'll be claiming thers a conspiracy again and that he's the messiah.
