yes, the rest of the county has to either vote on the tax or lose out on it. Honestly do you think the surrounding communities would just come out and say "Hey, let's vote to tax you another penny for every dollar for the next twenty years so we can fund projects we weren't even thinking about." All of Linn County is forced to vote or lose out due to Cedar Rapids irresponsible leadership.
Nice graphic again - 40% is for Existing street improvements, not future street repairs. that normally wouldn't be an issue but with the trust issues facing the current city leaders and the fact that they claim 90% of current LOST is for housing acquisition, development and rehab, yet they spend 70+% on Personal Possessions Programs, then it does become an issue. When will KCRG, Gazette and Rick Smith show some integrity?
It's a shame and disappointment that Don Karr has completely lost touch with his constituents and become nothing more than a yes-man puppet for anything Corbett wants.
Waste existing green space at the park by planting a huge building in the middle of it while acres of newly-acquired city-owned land sits wasting away in actual neighborhoods that could benefit from something like this...
There is a reason most of those shops are located on the outskirts of towns in Iowa...just sayin'
Funny, Corbett says their budget is only $99 million. I don't have the time or energy to prove or refute either claim - just noting the differences in your figures and what he is saying. I would think yours is more realistic
No its like a town hall meeting - after his sales pitch he opens up for questions and so far the meetings on the west side have been pretty vocal, to say the least.

I listened to Corbett at Taylor last night and it about made me sick. He talked down to the crowd as if they were school children and he was telling them he knows what is best for them. His plan is riddled with so many holes its difficult to know where to start when the Q&A period comes up at his meetings. In keeping with the comments above, specifically he states they have no solid plan and haven't started on the design or engineering of the project, or even decided which vendors to use for the major components of the flood walls. How can he lobby the state and feds (and obviously local voters) for all that money when he can't even justify the specifics of the dollar amounts? I honestly don't think he could provide a plausible answer to how he even came up with the $375 price tag since so many variables have yet to be pondered.
