13 years ago @ TechCrunch - Don't Buy The HTC EVO,... · 1 reply · +12 points

I switched from AT&T to Sprint to get the Evo and Sprint coverage (much better at my office then AT&T). I am using the same charging patterns with my Evo that I used on my HTC Tilt and have not had a problem. In anticipation of the charge problem brought up in many critical reviews of the EVO, I bought a second battery though I have not yet had any need for it.

If your someone who fills their gas tank only when your light comes on this phone may not be for you. But if you charge frequently anyway the battery problem isn't really a problem.

Freedom/choice vs polish is an objective position. I think the complaint about screen size is subjective. But if reduced battery life is the price to pay for experiencing the internet I want as opposed to the internet Steve Job's deems appropriate then I am happy to plug in may phone every night.

The turn around from FCC approval to distribution seems to be under a month now so I am optimistic we will see both the EVO4g and Moment 2 in June. Either way guess I am switching to Sprint. I just hope these are in stores so I can compare them. The EVO screen is tempting but I want to know how cumbersome it is in my pocket. I also MUCH prefer the physical keyboard to a virtual keyboard and the moment 2 seems like the first Android phone to offer one with a respectable screen res and processor.

whether you need to replace the battery or not is less relevant. It is just wasteful environmentally to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Your iphone no longer holds an adequate charge so chuck it and buy a new one.

If your usage model evolves on a nexus one and you need more memory, you can get a new memory card or use multiple SD cards. with the iphone you have to chuck it and buy a new device.

The primary reason to like the Nexus One is it is NOT an iphone. It is a highly capable smartphone running an open source OS. It is a thing of beauty that the iphone's greatest rival is on an open source OS given that all the iphone's "polish" is at the expense heavy handed control tantamount to censorship.

The fact that Jobs can suggest I "don't need flash" is why I do not need to by into the Apple ecosystem.

The human experience is flawed and no amount of polish can justify the means by which Apple accomplishes their perfection.

Apple created the Matrix, (Jobs still hasn't figured out the matrix 1.0 is too perfect). See you all in Zion/Android.
