And I needed their support too, because my feet were two inches off the ground! I couldn't even get the bike off the sidestand. Doh!

Actually, I think we might need another lead! We have enough for two groups now.

Can you post up in the thread on PNWRiders? that'll help me keep things organized.

We'd definitely appreciate your help!

bolty.net : How to Change the Oil in Your SV650

I agree on the oil filter wrench (and thanks for the part number, btw!) Even OEM filters aren't very expensive -- around $6 each I think.

I didn't need to change my filter during this particular oil change. I plan to update the write-up once that time comes.

You're right about large displacement bikes having small margins of error -- I certainly discovered this firsthand when I rode my Rebel into a ditch the first week I had it. Thankfully, I ended up being an amusing sight for some goats in the pen next to the ditch... instead of an EMS call!

I'm pretty sure no one's going to accuse you of starting out on the wrong foot, Ken! :) You bring up an interesting point in wanting several different bikes. I wonder why folks feel that their first bike has to be the "perfect" one; for example, the common complaint that if one buys a Rebel they'll soon "outgrow" it. Hello, that's the point. Of course you're going to outgrow your first bike. And in the process, you're going to find out what you like and don't like about it so you'll know what you want in the future. And then there are the poor souls who catch Multiple Bike Syndrome... there's no hope for us, I'm afraid!

I've had lots of practice so I don't mind taking off the seat to get to the battery. I'm not a fan of loose connectors dangling hither and yon so the alligator clips will be easiest for me.

Troubadour on a Triumph : The cursed corner....

Eek, too bad someone had a get-off! When I saw Airport Rd in the link I thought you were going to point to the 90 degree turn... but the one you marked on the map is a gotcha corner for sure. Someone volunteered us to host a dinner party on Saturday. Not I! Gah! A dinner party! GAH!

knisely.org : Riding gear matters

Your lid is probably just fine. There are some good deals to be found on various internet fora. For instance, I just received the Aerostich Roadcrafter that Sachi had for sale on Rounders for $200. It's been well loved, but it's in great shape and just needs a few repairs and some cleaning. Roadcrafters are $900 new!! advrider.com has quite a few items for sale in its Flea Market section. newenough.com has very competitive pricing for new gear. I'll leave with one last point, which I've learned though painful experience: the outrageously priced gear (like Aerostich) is worth it. I started out buying lesser quality gear and got tired of the blown-out seams, bad stitching, leaking when it's supposed to be waterproof, etc etc. For all the money I threw at gear trying to find something that worked... well, I could have bought an Aerostich!
