I USED to make over $16.00 an hour. Those jobs are gone, gone, gone. I've been looking and reinventing myself for over a year now. I have my Life/Health Insurance License (Not good at sales and can't live on the comission after working 13 hour days 6 days a week I'm exhausted. The $300 for that is NOT worth it!) I am also a Notary Public. I continue to apply for EVERYTHING that I am qualified for. I've done yard work, and cleaned houses... but, house cleaners and yard workers are a dime a dozen. Aside from going to school what am I supposed to do? I haven't even gotten Unemployment Money, so I have made a total of $500.00 over the last year. As for the family of 3, I never planned on being a single mother fighting to get my former husband to pay his share of child support. My kids and myself have lived quite well on the $26,000 we've had in the past, while their dad barely supports himself on nearly 3x that. I have never been involuntarily unemployed before. Never had such a hard time getting work. Getting Certified means getting an Associates Degree. I wish I could test out of that but, you can't.

Great! I'll hand sew you a quilt. It will only cost you $600.00 for labor and materials. Oh, that's Twin sized you want something larger and the cost goes up.

I'm a receptionist. I was told the other day that I need to have a Certificate in Front Office, and Bilingual is a plus. I don't think it's right that I must pay to take classes that I have taken in the past but, no longer count. Why should I take Keybording when I type 80 wpm with 98% accuracy. I don't care about climbing any corporate ladder, I just want to make a living. When it is required that I get a degree to answer phones, then the pay NEEDS to be over $10.00 an hour. How can a family of 3 live on $10 an hour and pay for school? Don't say loans, you still have to pay for those on the $10 hour when you are done with school.

If the young Mr. Martin did punch Mr. Zimmerman, then there would be evidence on his hands to prove it. There would be Mr. Zimmerman's blood and skin on the boys knuckles, since we all heard Mr. Zimmerman was bleeding from this attack. So, let us just watch and wait for all the evidence to be collected. The truth will be found.

Gah! Why won't this just stop? If a woman has the right to seek treatment for infertility, then she should have the right to treat her fertility too. My husband took care of his side of the issue. He didn't want children he had a vasectomy. I still take the pill, why? Because bleeding for 20 days out 31 isn't fun. What a society we have! If a woman has more than 2 children people roll their eyes and question if she can feed and clothe her brood. But, if she wants to stop at 2 children, then she better hold her knees together and join a convent.

I was unemployed for 7 months. I landed several interviews, sometimes being called back for second and third interviews. Each time I got the excuse of "We took the position in another direction." Receptionist positions really can't be taken in another direction unless that direction is younger. Or, my favorite, "We hired somebody with more experience." more than 20 years experience? When I drove by the young, thing at the desk couldn't have had more experience. I was recently hired by a company that likes me for my experience, qualifications, and personality. I am being trained like I have never been trained before. I am finally valued. We are hiring.

When we were in the Evergreen School Dist. a friends boy was being bullied. Being larger than the kid doing the bullying he went and told his teacher. The bullying didn't stop. He told his parents who had a meeting with the Principle and were told that it would be taken care of. The 2 boys were called into a meeting where the bullying was discussed. The bullying did not stop. My friend eventually taught their son to defend himself and gave him permission to do so. The next time the bully did his thing he was knocked on his rear end. Who got in trouble? My friends boy for taking action to defend himself. It is this kind of thinking that is the problem. If children are told to report bullying, and that it is not accepted, then when they report it something should be done. If bullying is reported and nothing done about it then I do believe that children should be able to take care of the issue in a Self Defense manner, and not get into trouble over it.

KATU - Portland, OR : AG: Apartment rules targeted families | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traffic

I am a former apartment manager the company I worked for has similar rules. No kiddie pools, no sandboxes, don't store anything on patios, sidewalks are for pedestrians, no playing in the parking lot, plants must be on floor of deck or patio, and no sidewalk chalk. The property I worked at was near a park but, did not have a play ground for kids. Everyone is legally entitled to "Peaceful enjoyment" of their home. Everyone needs to live somewhere. But, some of these rules aren't safety concerns but, concerns about how the place looks. I can't count the times I was told to scrub the sidewalks because of drawings by kids. Hot summer days kiddie pools are nice, some kids need sandboxes... We as a society need to realize that everyone has a place, rights, and needs. Be courteous, thoughtful of others and supportive of each other and things are going to be much better.

It would be nice to be able to claim "I have my period and I have cramps. I also have a migraine and PMS. So I need 5 days off." *sigh* Not in the real world.
