He already took down the old Left. That's the point. That's where all those New Left groups you mentioned came from; they were spawned by Soros' takedown of the Democratic party to support the rebirth into the Progressive party. (See LC's earlier post "Media Matters vs Citizen Journalists: Who Will Win in the End" on Big Government for the entire Soros history).

It was in fact an intentional takedown; it occurred starting in 1994 and took hold for the 2004 Congressional elections. It's all been well documented.

It's also covered in part in this post - you may have missed it. Review the line that reads:
