Yes! I said to myself years ago when I first listened to the lyrics that I felt he was singing an ode to communism. I also felt that since this was shortly after the Beatles break up, that the split with Paul affected his output for the worse. (Paul's too, but in a different way) Pretentious babble is what it is, both musically and lyrically. But he was John and by then he could come out with anything he wanted and get away with it: a composition simultaneously melodically bland, but cute, and lyrically purposefully illogical and esoteric. The competitive edge of composing something significant was gone (again, McCartney's presence and influence were sorely needed), and with the inevitable overly large ego resulting from years of adulation, and a drug induced stupor reinforcing his belief in his own genius, he basically sat down at the piano and knocked off a tune that would have been rejected wholeheartedly by the other 3 Beatles, Brian Epstein, and George Martin if it had been 1963 rather than 1971.
