Exactly!! This takes us one step closer to "A Brave New World". We need to "condition" each individual into the state's desired group so that there can be only groups - no individual. The individual is the threat to the state.
If you were enlightened in the ways of math and science, you would know that correlation does not prove causality EVER. This is the major problem with research on climate change. I agree that this country's math and science abilities are going down the tubes. Instead of teaching our children the scientific method, we are teach theories as fact (i.e. Climate Change) and we are teaching theology and philosophy as science (i.e. Darwinism). If we would actually get back to the basics...reading, writing and arithmetic...we would all be a lot smarter and able to discern for ourselves what is fact and what is not.
It's just like environmentalism....they are creating their own religion. The irony is that they look down upon organized religion, yet that is exactly what they are re-creating. All the more confirmation for me that God does exist and intends for our worship. As they continue to search for the truth, they will also continue to create and recreate their own "truths".
I've enjoyed reading your discussion. As a Pro-Life Libertarian myself, I agree with EdSki. I can tell you that you are really interested in learning more about the economy and government and how they work together and what that means to the benefit of society. I suggest you read Applied Economics: Thinking Beyond Stage One by Thomas Sowell. It's a quick read. He's an economist at Stanford (how's that for credentials). He is a conservative, but undeniably brilliant and on point!
I think "The Siege" was a was a fairly good representation of terrorism and terrorist's true motives. In fact, the best scene is where Annette Bening's character is imploring her lover, a Muslim terrorist that she's been spying on, not to go through with a bombing. On TV they are showing anti-war protesters at the site he is about to blow up. She says something to the effect that they are on his side...which he admits that they are not....that is the TRUTH, we are all infidel's to the extremists. They want to wipe us ALL out...including the sympathizers and the pacifists.
Thank you for your reply. I am not bothered by the honest critiques that I see here as I enjoy debate (and also agree with some of the criticisms on the story writing). However, I am disturbed by the personal attacks on the fans. You are correct that parents need to help their children navigate the fine line between fantasy and reality. It's just funny to me how intense some reviewers get in their fear (i.e. the writer of this review). But I guess those same people were afraid of Harry Potter when it came out too. I can think of much much worse!
P.S. I read the Flowers in the Attic series when I was a teenager too and often wonder how I would feel about my own child reading it (I don't have any yet though!).
Ugh I feel like I am on a lib site here. Why all the over-the-top elitist angst?! My favorite authors are George Orwell, Ayn Rand, Thomas Sowell, Stephen King, C. S. Lewis, and Tolkien, but I enjoyed Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books because they were an easy read and allowed for some escapism. I'll gladly discuss the themes and the quality of the story and story writing (or lack thereof) in these books. But I am quite sure that either way, they aren't damaging to our society or women.
Ugh, this is exactly what liberals want! They want to hijack every aspect of culture. This is a TRUE story of redemption. A perfect example of conservative values in ACTION. We can't fall prey to their games. We must support stories like this in order to create a counter culture - a culture that opposes reliance on the government for salvation. So they take a jab at Bush. SO WHAT!?! That does not take away from the truths of the story - truths that must be told to save our society .
Thank you for pointing out this review. You are perfectly right. Liberals don't want a story about redemption. They only want stories about victimization and hopelessness. I am a conservative and I WILL pay to see this movie in the theater.
So let me get this straight...since I am a white, conservative, Christian woman I can't help black people. In fact, I probably shouldn't help anyone because it can only be out of self gratification. Thanks for clarifying. What a great encouragement you are society.
