This ranks right up there with the idea that farmers ought to be taxed on the amount of methane gas produced by their animals. It is nothing more than an attempt to rationalize their idea that some people are "more worthy" (think the health care treatment board in the stimulus bill) or more deserving than others.........and an excuse to tax us more!

I agree. If we kill enough of them sooner or later they'll figure out it isn't worth their while ........letters of marque are a great idea. Why aren't we doing that in Afghanistan too?

She was completely awesome. I guess it just goes to show that sometimes those who consider themselves to be the absolute authority actually don't know much! How apropos for today!

The whole idea is to prevent someone getting to that state where they feel something like that is necessary by giving them an outlet to address their grievances. So I would say to all the military/ex-military out there who did take offense-don't leave the discussion or the movement. You have something to add to the discussion and the movement, and you are respected and honored for your service and your experience. We need your input, and may need more than that someday. Don't let a perceived insult (which may or may not have been there-it is hard for someone to tell who did not hear the exchange) put you out of the group. It is going to happen, about more than just this issue. However there are way more important things at stake here-like the future of our country. That should be bigger than anyone's offense. Plus if we argue amongst ourselves, isn't that what the Left wants us to do?

That being said, there is a lot of anger out there bubbling around. I think that anger could easily turn into violence, and that should be avoided unless it is absolutely necessary. Cooler heads need to prevail, unless the time comes when we really do need to fight with more than just words. We do need to be reminded of that from time to time. And we also need to remember that people DO take things into their own hands at times-the Timothy McVeigh situation is a prime example. That does not and should not be taken as a reflection on the entire military however-that was the action of an individual.

Onto the question at hand. I have listened to Glen when I can and believe that he also has the utmost respect for the military and would not deliberately insult any military service member in any way. So because I did not hear the radio exchange, my thoughts are premised merely by reading the responses on this thread. There seem to be two schools of thought-one that Glen just out and out insulted this guy, and the other that he was telling the guy what he needed to do some reading, inform himself about where he was at, and then make a decision based on his research.

Firstly, let me preface by saying while I did get to hear part of the show on Friday I missed this part. I could also not find the transcript or stream that someone said was out there, and I'm not an insider yet, but I have gone back and read ll the posts and replies in connection to the thread. So here is my take: I have never served in the military, but have the utmost respect for them and actually have a military studies degree as a civilian. I can certainly empathize with someone who questions what he ought to do if he is someday ordered to do something by his commanding officers that he/she feels is unethical. I think that is a common problem that a lot of people, military or not, will/do face in their jobs. I know I work in a situation where my political beliefs don't match with those of the people I work for, and I have to try and mesh what I believe is right into a liberal leaning (to some extent) organization every day. However, I believe that I am there for a reason and so I go into the trenches every day.
Therefore, all the more reason to live by values and principles.

Have you even looked into what caused the whole mess in the first place? Apparently not, because you don't have your facts straight. And it is precisely the people who have jobs who are so upset in the first place about having to support those who don't have them on purpose or who have overextended themselves. I don't think you have paid much attention to what people on here are actually upset about........

I wonder how long it will be until a backyard garden is considered a "small farm"? I know sales of vegetable seeds are way up this year because more people are putting in gardens or expanding those we do have (I know we are). I agree with contacting legislators, although I do not know how much it helps. Does anyone wonder how long it will be until we as a population have a "tracking system" for us too that regulates what we buy, who we buy it from and whether we can buy it at all? If my dad wants to run a beef cow on our land for us to eat the next year are we considered a "small farm"? My family have been small farmers for generations, this would ruin so many of my neighbors who still farm their land...........
