Thank you. It still seems to me that one who lies to the Nazis is still "acting on a contradiction" -- simultaneously accepting and rejecting a tenet of being a good Nazi. He may have to construct a very elaborate, hard-to-keep-track-of rolling story. The only difference is that he has a justifiable cause. But I don't see how that avoids the internal problem.

I tried to make the NAP less nebulous by anchoring it in broader respect, which in turn is anchored in the conditions of flourishing. If I've failed, fine. But how have I failed?

As I read this I thought of Bastiat's thesis (in Economic Harmonies) that freedom, competition, and technology will transfer wealth "from the private realm to the communal realm" as it substitutes "gratis utility" for "onerous utility."

Needless to say, if I favor the freedom to opt out of tax-funded activities, I favor the freedom to opt out of conscription. Taxation lies at the very foundation of the state--the draft board will want to be paid. Take that away and there's soon nothing left.
