I am truly sorry for your loss. I lost my little sister almost 3 years ago because some idiot got drunk, hopped on his motorcycle and thought he was invincible. My sister was only 17 at the time. I understand your need to get justice for your daughter, you are her mother & father and that is your job. Nobody has the right to judge you for anything you have done. I know its not about the money because no amount of money is worth your childs life and im sure you would trade all the money in the world to just have your baby back. I agree there needs to be harsher punishments for drunk driving and bartenders can only control so much. None of us were at that bar, we do not know the circumstances surrounding the lawsuit. It is very hard to hold an establishment responsible without really good evidence that they knowingly broke the law and acted negligent. Again, my heart goes out to you and your family as you continue down the long path of healing. Our family will never be the same without my sister. So sad, two young beautiful girls had their lives cut short all because someone wanted to get drunk.

If only we lived in a perfect world. Harsher sentences for first time offenders might just make them think twice about getting behind the wheel after drinking.

Unless you have been in a situation like this, it's hard to say what you would or would not do. My baby sister was killed almost 3years ago when she was hit by a drunk driver, she was 17 at the time. The man that hit her was also killed instantly, found to have been 3 times over the legal limit, racing down a highway at almost 100mph and he too had just been issued his drivers license again after his 3rd DUI. Our family knows what bar he had been served at prior to the accident. As a sister my first instincts say sue the bar and everyone that let that sob leave in the condition he was in, however, I am also a bartender and understand how hard it is to determine how drunk a person is when they leave. You don't know how much they have drank prior to you serving them and if they came in and only had 1 beer, then got in their car and slammed a fifth of vodka, takes off and kills someone how is that the bar owners or bartenders fault? I feel if a bartender knowingly over serves a customer and let's them leave knowing they are drunk and possibly driving then by all means that bartender should be in trouble. But at what point do we hold the constant DUI re offenders responsible? There needs to be harsher consequences for your first DUI instead of just a slap on the hand. Maybe if the moron that killed my sister would have not been able to get his license back after his 3rd DUI he would have not been out driving that night. I know it won't stop everyone from driving drunk or without a license but if it saves one family from going through the hell my family has gone through the past 3 years then it's worth it to me.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Girl, 15, killed in possible street race crash; driver injured | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | L

Wow, let me start by saying that I can not believe how disrespectful and rude so many people are being towards this young girl and her family. Until you have lost somebody so close to you at such a young age, I don't think any of you have a right to judge her nor her family. I myself lost my 17yr old sister this past June in a horrible accident that involved 2 motorcycles that were racing down the highway. My sister was the driver of the car and her boyfriend was the passenger. Very much like this accidnet, she died right away but her boyfriend survived the accident. At first the media tried putting the blame on my sister as well, saying that she "failed to yeild" when she was pulling out onto the highway, what they failed to mention was that the motorcycles were racing at around 120mph and my sister never stood a chance to "yeild" to them.
