What's really missing here? The joy of the Lord. Without it, all you have to cling to is rules. With it, you are free to accept people the way they are and love them unconditionally.

I am just now getting around to reading your questions, Mike. I love that you picked Robert because of his personal influence on me.

(On a side note - I was introduced to Robert and Maurilio on this same project. I can honestly say that I gained insight from both, but I gained more than that - I gained two friends in the process.)

I appreciate that Robert is a master communicator. His verbal, written, and non-verbal communication skills are un-paralleled. Two of the most influential books I have read in the last 10 years were "She Calls Me Daddy" and "The Most Important Place on Earth" - both by Robert.

If I could add anything to your list about Robert, I would add that he is one of the classiest dressers I know. I can't see French-cuff shirts and not think of Robert. I ask anyone that knows Robert, that wears French-cuff shirts, if they are working on their "Robert Wolgemuth Starter Kit". :)

I blogged about this myself - the iPad is the first generation of what every computer will be in the next five or so years. As wireless/cell networks get better, and cloud computing takes over (a la Google), we won't need the bulk of a laptop.

Because this is a first gen product, it isn't all things to all people. Yet. It will only get better from here.

Thanks for the thoughts, Spence.

There are certain times when you need to amass followers (if you are marketing something). but I have always used Twitter to connect and keep up with people I don't see all the time - but the key is that usually I know them, or have some tangible connection to them.

That's why I block my Twitter feed. I don't need (or want) the spam, and I don't want (or need) complete strangers following me. Sometimes I want to be one of the "cool kids" and follow all the influencers on Twitter, but without a personal connection, why do I want to clutter my life with it? Besides, anything good those people say will eventually be re-tweeted by someone who is in my circle.

Finally, I'm glad to see the days of people trying to make me feel like I'm less of a person because I don't have 1,000 or 2,000 or 50,000 followers going away. I think the novelty of Twitter is wearing off, and the benefits of it being a legitimate communication tool are becoming the reasons people stick with it.

Thanks, Lindsey. I am really grumpy this morning. REALLY grumpy.

This helped provide a little perspective.

Great thoughts, Tod.

I said this many times when I was working with electronic content at Nelson. Our job wasn't to be the technology creators (which we were chasing in order to maintain control), but to do what we do best - create great content (and only great content, like you said) and make that content available in whatever form the user dictated (and made sense, of course).

Yes, by giving up control we may give up a little more margin in the long run (and therefore jobs, as I saw first hand), but in the end it's the right decision for the company if you want to stay in business and not be gobbled up by someone else, again, as you said.

14 years ago @ Lindsey Nobles - Help Me Be Hip · 0 replies · +1 points

Wow. This is so subjective. First, I must say that no one has EVER accused me of being hip. That being said, here is a list of artists/bands that I like. Some are slightly more obscure, inherently making them "hip". :)

In no particular order, other than running down my iPod list of artists:

The brokenmusicbox
Chris Isaak
The Choir
Fountains of Wayne
Giant
Ingram Hill
JET
Lisa Loeb
LSU/Lu/Life Savers Underground (also, anything by lead singer Michael Knott)
The Shins
Steve Burns (yes, the "Blue's Clues" guy)
The Violet Burning
The White Stripes
Wilco
The 77's

Do with it what you will. I'll let go and discover them on your own rather than me trying to put them into a genre.
