"And, there was a total absence of debate about ending slavery or allowing women to have voting rights?"

many people are having discussions regarding modern reforms of sharia law.

many, many, many people. again, this points to why sharia law is so misunderstood.

and again, you have no proper context for your claims. please have a read:

why not?

any less than christians who are trying to push creationism and a 6,000 year old earth on americans?

i did in fact live in qatar for several years, and the amount to which they have "caught up" in the past two decades alone is absolutely staggering. women not only vote, they hold political office. they own and manage companies, etc.

one could argue tragic human rights abuses occur elsewhere in the non-muslim world, surely we cannot blame sharia law for that!

again, sharia law does not mean de facto beheadings, subjugation of women, etc.... only certain interpretations of sharia law as practiced by certain nations do.

which again, backs my original statement supporting the Obama advisor:

sharia law is often misunderstood.

hey! how much would you have heard of the human rights folk in america 100-200 years ago?

<crickets chirping>

lets all pat ourselves on the back. the past few generations of our forefathers managed to advance our society further than any other societies on earth.

~150 years ago, we were cool with humans as property. ~80 years ago, we subjugated women as nonvoting entities.

now take a step back and gain some global historical context and perspective.

**YOU** did not make this sudden awareness happen. in fact, there are many americans who follow the likes of Rand Paul who want to reverse our policies, and make them mesh closer to the afghan taliban.

who do you support?

well, i never said sharia law would be permissible under the US constitution, nor did the Obama aide in the story. so i wonder why you keep ringing that bell, it simply makes no sense.

i simply said sharia law is far reaching, and often wrongly tied to things like genital mutilations, beheadings, violence against women, etc.

not all sharia law is interpreted the same. and most nations that practice the more barbaric practices are significantly less advanced than the society we enjoy in the united states.

shall we equate capitalism to slavery and segregation a few generations ago in the US? women's property rights and lack of vote merely 90 years ago?

we've come a long way in 150 years. the rest of the world, much poorer and less educated, is struggling to catch up.

again. if all this blogger can think of is honor killings, stonings, hanging, and beheading when it comes to something as broad and as all encompassing as Sharia Law, it most certainly is misunderstood.

i did not defend it, make apologies for it, explain it, or agree with it. i merely state that it is, indeed, very misunderstood in the west. this much is fact.

this post and article prove the Obama advisor's point quite succinctly.

if all this blogger can think of is honor killings, stonings, hanging, and beheading when it comes to something as broad and as all encompassing as Sharia Law, it most certainly is misunderstood.

Qatar, for example is a very advanced western style society, with women holding political positions and voting, among many other things.

consider sharia banking, that prohibits the payment or acceptance of interest fees for the lending and accepting of money, for one.

there's far, far, far more to it than what gets 99% of the attention in the west. That is very probably why it is, indeed... so very misunderstood. thank you for bringing this to light, I hope you can learn something from it.

"you cant find any, how suprising "

i am taking that to mean you can't either, despite your claim that they are commonplace

"politics isnt about intellect Einstein, its about public relations "

whoa, back up there chief. we are talking about the science of human caused global climate change here.

are you going to try and tell me science is all about public relations? from your point of view, that's probably how it is, huh?

again with the name calling.

still haven't answered my question but that's okay/

Again, we are discussing the law of the land today,as is written and interpreted for both KSM and Yousef trials..There is no reason why KSM's trial would be any more damaging, any more expensive, any more of a show trial than Yousef- who was arrested in pakistan, extradicted to the US, convicted by a civilian court in NYC, and serving a life sentence in colorado.

you have utterly failed to make any case to that point at all.

the taliban **was** afghanistan when we invaded. they *were* the afghan government.
