1 Wine Dude : Debunking the Argument Against Wine and Social Media

I'm too busy with speaking and thinking to take time to manicure my goatee. I am lucky that it's shape is refined only by good genes.

1 Wine Dude : The Otter Badgers of Wine Reviews: Joining the Wine Rating Revolution

Are you saying 250K wines deserve accolades? I can think of a few thousand this year that deserve distillation. This badge meme is fun, and great to starting a conversation, but really do we need more labels on bottles, virtual or otherwise, to confuse the consumer? If this were to work each blog would get at the most 1 badge. You recommend it or you don't, then at least you can see someone gives it a thumbs up. Yet even that would be doomed to fail, if we took the 1000+ blogs we're tracking at wineblogger.info and had each one with a badge the system becomes humorous. Most bloggers traffic is from search and when someone finds the rating or story with a badge, they either need to guess at what it means, or spend more time on the site looking for the explanation. Someone needs to register: winebadge.org or similar and give us a standard, that could maybe affect that sale of wine. If there was one set of badges with one explanation and bloggers were given a chance to callibrate to that system you might actually change something.

Agreed. I personally am a bit befuddled and annoyed by all the names, and my intro tried to use as many as possible, more for the confusion than anything else. I do not understand the terms, nor do I believe in all of them, and many are not as you state even bothering due to the bureaucracy! That said, the opportunity the Burgundy School of Business offers is to discuss, and such we will. Who knows what will come of it...

Catavino : Get Your "Wine Fault" Out of My Glass: Misconceptions, Misnomers and Misadventures with Wine

THis blows my mind! We get on average 1 corked bottle per 20 wines we open. I have on our counter now about 5 bottles that we will dump. I used to get in my store about 1 a day, that were either returned or a sample that was corked. Low percentages considering the amount of wine we dealt with but none the less a lot of bottles. I think 5% is fair, though I know it's been higher in the past.

9 times out of 10 when I get a TCA tainted wine the cork looks perfect, the wine is beautiful and it smells/tastes like crap. What you describe is more like a loose cork or a wine that was heated in transit, and while it may have some wet cardboard notes, is probably not TCA as you say. There are tons of faults, the problem is though when the wine looks perfect and the wine tastes bad. Then the consumer is left wondering, or rather not, instead they assume the wine is not to their liking.

Catavino : The Spanish Cava that Saved the Party

Not sure where you smell the rat? I think any wine geek can be talked into a sparkling sauv blanc, I know I would be. I can assure you that Michael does not work for Albet i Noya, but rather had a fun experience finding that the Cava he had saved the day. Albet i Noya are well respected here and need no help promoting their wines. Your absolutely correct when you say "Just because a winemaker can makea sparkling wine it does not mean it is any good. Trust your palate....... not a wine sales person who pushes dodgy concoctions" But being a lover of wine I know I always seek out new and unknown wines... In fact I've had a few Sauvignon Blanc sparklers when I used to sell wine...need to do some research find out what they were.
