Shit, was it? I'm a big fan of Patton's, but I don't remember that line from any of his stuff. If I lifted it, I did it subconsciously. Now that you mention it, "blowjob robot" does sound familiar. Ill go back through some of his standup and change my line if it turns out I stole it.

The Editing Room : Sex and the City 2: The Abridged Script

It wasn't just a joke, it was a criticism of the film (or, at the very least, of the existence of the film). And it's one that I've heard from way more people than just you, including the Family Guy episode that your friend ripped off which you then overheard. Sorry mate, but whether you thought about what you were saying or not, you were repeating a criticism of the movie that I fucking can't stand. I assumed it was one you stood behind, but I guess not. I'll retract my "Fuck You" and direct it instead at whoever you heard say it and meant it. (As an aside, I also completely detest when people hide behind "it was a joke" as if it somehow makes the truth that the joke wraps inherently uncounterable. It's like saying something completely offensive and then saying "no offense" or prefixing a completely personal attack with "nothing personal, but...")

The Editing Room : Sex and the City 2: The Abridged Script

I actually really despise this criticism (which you lifted from Family Guy, by the way). First of all, it's not accurate. I have never watched the show, but I have seen both movies, and it's abundandly clear that the only "whore" is Samantha (the one that the joke, oddly, does not call a whore). Miranda is a careerist, Charlotte is damn near a prude. As of the first movie, they are both in married, monogamous relationships, and as of the second movie so is Carrie. More importantly, these characters are, in no way, "whores" even in the show as I understand it. They were all seeking love and relationships, and part of that quest included sex (and the frank discussion of it). These women simply treat sex the way men do: they enjoy it. I'm utterly sick of seeing women who are comfortable being sexual beings called "whores" or "sluts". Are we still so puritanical that we are so offeneded by women who like sex that we have to resort to name calling and derision? Even Samantha is not a "whore" any more than your basic male is, and not even in the same ballpark as men (and especially teenage boys) in movies. The other three are still nowhere near that level. When people make a crack about Sex and the City being about whores, it makes me want to punch them in the face. You're holding our society back, dickwads. Its not the middle ages anymore, our womenfolk don't need to be chaste and pure while you blast your own jizz in anything warm that moves. My biggest complaint is that SATC2 had to go to the middle east because frank discussion of sex by women was shocking in America in the 90's, but not in 2010. This kind of comment shows that its still somehow shocking to the western world. It's pathetic, you're validating the sense of smug accomplishment that the shitty filmmakers have about their movies. This movie sucks because it celebrates decadence and shallowness during a recession. It sucks because its characters don't grow. It sucks because the writing is shit. It sucks because every god damn joke falls flat on its face. It sucks because it's utterly pointless. It sucks because it's a brainless vehicle for fashion designer product placement. It does not suck because it's female cast likes to fuck. Fuck you.

The Editing Room : Clash of the Titans: The Abridged Script

No, I changed it. It was previously set to "monospace" which was rendering pretty nicely in some browsers, but picking shitty versions of Courier in others. I standardized it to all be the same font. Not sure I'm completely satisfied with it though. Thoughts?

The Editing Room : The Twilight Saga: New Moon: The Abridged Script

Well, the movie came out in August but I wrote the script in October. Generally, I do 13 scripts per year, bare minimum. That's how many issues of Total Film get published per year. So usually, I publish one a month. Sometimes it doesn't work out easily. So Basterds went up late October, this one went up early December (and 2012 is posting later in December as well). That doesn't include scripts I write exclusively for the site or scripts I do for Cracked. In any case, don't check the home page over and over again. Look into subscribing to the RSS feed and save yourself the hassle, that way you will see when I update. You can also follow me on twitter (@theeditingroom)

So hello Lee, At no point in this post do I use either "it's" or "its". 1960s vs 1960's is a style choice, both are correct in English: http://andromeda.rutgers.edu/~jlynch/Writing/a.ht... You're a moron.

The Editing Room : Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: The Abridged Script

So why can't Dumbledore cast a spell on Hogwarts so that Harry can't be touched by evil forces as long as he can call Hogwarts "his school"? Then just never let the shit graduate, or make him a professor. Sounds like the books are just as stupid as the movies.

Psst... I've changed the way the 'Coming Soon' widget on the left sidebar works. It's no longer text that I update manually, but it pulls from my drafts and scheduled items. If you hover over the entry, it will show you the date the script is posting if it's known. Don't tell anyone

The Editing Room : Twilight: The Abridged Script

Fair enough. Twilight hasn't set the feminist movement back 50 years. The fact that about half the women in this country consider the other half to be "whores" because they are unreserved about their sexuality, however, THAT definitely has.

The Editing Room : Moving to IntenseDebate

Generally speaking, I don't let my needs as a webmaster outweigh the needs of the people who are visiting the site. If the comment system costs me pageviews but makes the lives of everyone else easier, it's alright with me. I'm toying with the idea of keeping paginated comments (still through intensedebate) on the post pages, but the notion of losing traffic of pageviews doesn't bother me very much.

The Editing Room : Moving to IntenseDebate

Well, it was either popping up a window, tacking the comments on the end of the post, or having the comment link replace the script in the current window. Tacking the comments on was the problem I was looking to avoid because they grow so much, and I figured replacing the script would make discussion somewhat more difficult. I'm not crazy about popups in general either, but it seemed like the best route.

I still have some styling to do and I'm having trouble deciding on a good place for the comment popup links but overall I like the system quite a bit.
