it is steve's fault. interest in iowa basketball was trending down during his tenure. the love for hawkeye basketball is gone and won't be back until a big winner plays at carver hawkeye. just like it's george bush's fault, it;s steve alford's fault.

actually, wsu was put on probation for the sins of the harry miller regime, which preceded smithson. of course, the ncaa came down hard. if it would have been kansas, they would have gotten a slap on the wrist. it was stuff like an illegal ride to the airport for a recruit, buying a winter coat for a recruit. that's not to say smithson wasn't guilty of stuff but they never could prove it. carr was a local guy and levingston was his buddy.
