Illegals are here. More will come, unless we secure the border. Period. Reagan's amnesty was a sham, because there was no follow-thru on constraining more illegal integration or enforcement of existing laws. Most have already integrated in some fashion into the economy. Violent illegals are here but a minority. All this is documented and discussed ad nauseum.
If we actually secure the border, both south and north, we can then focus better on what to do with those who are here, contributing, and living peacefully. I oppose simply making them citizens through amnesty. I oppose disrupting lives and businesses by ripping people out of their jobs, harming millions of people and thousands of small businesses.
Something along the line of a green card, call it a purple card for discussion, could be issued to all the illegals in the country, and treat them like any green card holder: right to work, for a limited time, then you have to go home and get permission to re-enter. But those with a purple card must fulfill all the obligations of new immigrants within a period of time...learn the laws, learn the language, learn the culture, no voting in any election, have no felonies (but a traffic ticket or two is human) and if they can demonstrate they are good citizens, paying taxes, supporting themselves and any children they've produced, then they've earned the right to stay. But, if they miss the purple card grace period, they and their dependents get a one way ticket home, and if ever caught in the US again, a LONG stint in the penitentiary.

We all forget. There is no soul in laws, or in contracts, there is only black and white. But we are all human, and there is humanity and compassion in the way we should approach those who live in desperation for their lives and their families' future.

But first, secure the border, and begin enforcing immigration laws on those who hold neither a green card nor a purple card, and the employers who hire them.

I just posted a comment to the regulations.gov site and to my Washington reps. I also sent it, with an explanation to put it in context, to my personal email distribution list, asking them to also plug in and enlist others they know, too. Everyone on this blog should do the same!!!

FYI, the comment I sent, follows...

There are only 11 days to respond! I strongly disagree with the 29 CFR Parts 403 and 408 RIN 1215–AB75 proposal to delay the filing due date of the Form T–1, Trust Annual Report.
The initial establishment of Form T–1 with the final rule published on October 2, 2008, 73 FR 57412, was entirely appropriate. The Department should not have proposed withdrawing the Form in early 2009. Had I known of that activity then, and of the July public hearing, I would have expressed my opposition at both of those times.

A Union is no more a Private entity than a similarly sized corporation, and many times a Union may have even more "stockholders" i.e., members, than a corporation. They should be subjected to scrutiny that allows members and protectors of the public interest to review their financial activities. Period.

Do NOT allow any further implementation delay of the filing requirement!!
Please intercede!
