I think people should be allowed to say whatever winter greeting they want. I, for one, do not get offended because someone didn't magically know what celebration I prefer.

What I want to know is how would some people react to a person saying "happy solstice?"

How do you regret killing oneself?

actually sal, a debate isn't supposd to be about belief, but fact. this site is in no way a debate site. it's a site for people to argue about their beliefs, with a little sprinklin of actual facts throne in as rebuttle from time to time. If this were a true debate forum people would have to provide proof to back up their claims, which would essentiailly delegitimize neaerly all responses from certain members regarding issues of "morality" and "ethics".

who are we--since I presume we are emplied as the world police since we act like it--to tell anyone what to do? They are a soverign nation. We may not agree with their sentiments or methods, but they are a democracy. Are we to now move beyond simple democracy and mandate that all democracies become carbon copies of our own?

If they use it for peaceful means they have every right to attain nuclear power. In fact if they built a bunch of nuclear power plants they'd be far more advanced than America. How's that for a thinking point?

effective at what? it's not a deterrent, it's a punishment. The idea of having someone who took a life without care live out their own life is absurd. It not only costs millions of dollars, but it isn't even remotely fair. you take a life intentionally for selfish reasons you deserve to die.

Boy, those embryonic stem cells sure are a waste of time.

Human embryonic stem cells were used to restore limb function in rats with spinal injuries. They even work on rats! And now we will begin human trials. Such a waste, right?

Hybrids are the bandaid to keep people's mouths shut right now. Eventually we'll have to, and will, move to fully electric cars. The technology is most here now, but it will become more efficient and cheap to manufacture in the near future. At some point we will have no choice but to abandon oil as a fuel source because it truly is an absurd concept to continue. It got us to this point, advancement wise as a society, but it's time to move on to bigger and better things.

All I know is that my mother just informed me that she had to leave the pharmacy today without pain medication she needs because it isn't covered by her insurance. The medicine would cost her $600. She can barely walk. Needless to say she left the pharmacy in way more pain than she expected upon walking in.

Something is wrong here...

Pusty, you just proved my point about pervasive misinformation. While it is possible that stem cells may be harvested from aborted embryos that doesn't mean that is their primary, even often source. Nearly all embryonic stem cells are either derived directly from IVF embyros that will be discarded, or from cloned lines of cells from IVF embryos that were going to be discarded. The notion that embryonic stem cells come from abortions--which leads people to link the two matters are linked--is not remotely true. And no, Obama does not want to legalize the slaughter of 3 week old infants. Get real, will you... Provide some sort of argument rather than absurd baseless attacks. And also, do not try and "prove" your point by deflecting onto another issue. This debate is about embryonic stem cell research, not abortion!
