And you dear boy are a semi literate with spelling difficulties. Truely. You are also a rather nasty piece of work who has very little to contribute to the debate other than random insults like the one above. But here's your chance to shine. Rather than sling insults about perhaps you can address the question which I light heartedly hinted at in my post to Bernard. Which do you rate more ridiculous? Believing that the world was created only 6,000 years ago despite all the scientific and geological evidence to the contrary. Believing that the host at mass literally turns to the body and blood of Christ in the celebrant's stomach, this despite no post mortem ever finding such a thing? A rational man would discount both equally. You on the other hand choose not only to abuse the creationists but anyone questioning transubstantiation. Why would that be?

I'll see your Dominus vobiscum and raise you one urbi et orbi Cardinal. Oh, just one thing Sasanach. If you want to play you have to ante up. That means posting your stake in the middle. An original thought related to the debate perhaps or something else of value. Unfortunately irrational gratuitous personal abuse isn't legal tender in civilised discussion. But if you really prefer just a sledging session do let me know and I'll accommodate you although you may not find the accommodation all that comfortable. Nugator ac nerbula.

Thank you for those kind words. I'm a great admirer of yours too. Rest assured your secret is sage with me Sasanach. I won't tell a soul you're really the current head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith moonlighting.

Ah, sure you're the sly on OK Bernard. Leaving out the more extreme bits now, like "fundamentalist lunatics". Wee bit of air brush revision to sound less nasty than it was it really was? I'm hurt at your lack of confidence in my understanding of Roman Catholic Dogma. Consistently I've exposed its cynical traducement of Christianity when compared to Christ's actual teaching as recorded in the New Testament which the Roman Catholic church claims to follow closely. Does that not show understanding? Had you forgotten that your last message to me prior to the current ones was that I was a person of no account with whom you would no longer correspond? Or perhaps we should all just ignore promises you make while venting? Anyway, when I reminded you I'd have thought a good Catholic would make the obvious connection with excommunication?

"It's just that, for historical reasons, the fundamentalist lunatics are politically powerful. when you're railing against republicanism and the paranoia about Rome rule, the extremist fundamentalist protestants are going to have the loudest voices." What card would that be? Ace of spades? Are you sure that what gets furthest up your nose is that my contempt for Roman Catholic dogma is based on the fact that I understand it only too well? Anyway, you swore you'd excommunicated me. Honestly, just can't rely on a single thing you promise at all Bernard.

Hiya nom_nom. Just had a telling off from Rich for being over ironic to the extent folk took it seriously. So, seriously then. I agree with all you say. In a broader sense do you think maybe all these people who defend the right to keep dangerous, potentially violent dogs but refuse to control them are just another facet of a crumbling society? One where too many individuals now also refuse to control their own and their childrens' public behaviour. A society of growing political correctness where the authorities appear powerless or just unwilling to impose any sort of order?

Hiya Rich. I prefer to call it irony. Anyway, if you do it with a straight face sometimes people take a while to get the joke. Perhaps I was a little OTT this time because the volume of whining and howling from the killer doggie camp sickens me. Bunch of irresponsible inadequates who in many cases only keep these dangerous animals to bolster their street cred and boost their self esteem by letting the brutes run unchecked near old people , kids and smaller dogs. Be more howls of protest at my suggestion that such folk shouldn't be sectioned but shot instead of the dog the first time it attacks someone or something. That clear enough mate?

Really Mr. Pies. Surely you don't mean that? All those nice US citizens so outraged at the nasty BCC that they want to boycott our entire wee country are loonies? Lovely, kindly folk who absolutely never went out or still go out now with bl00dy great guns shooting any animal they see, except of course dogs, or even the occasional human of the darker persuasion should one happen across the sights? You question the sanity of such kindly protectors of all living things? Please get it into your head. The rights of big dogs, especially dangerous ones specially bred to fight and kill are far greater than the rights of wee dogs, or even wee humans whom they might inadvertently kill when allowed to romp free by their loving owners. Such unfortunate incidents are purely accidental as part of innocent in play or entirely justifiable should the darling killer breed feel itself provoked in the very slightest.

Rich, I am often in agreement with your comments and I hate to say this but on this subject you're gonna have to straighten up and fly right. Although your post doesn't actually come out and say so, the tone makes it perfectly clear to me that you consider people more important than animals. Not only that but tax payers' money should be spent on humans in preference to dogs. Such an unenlightened attitude in this day and age frankly surprises and disappoints me.

Been quietly watching this thread and I don't think I've ever heard you so serious on a subject before Chief. I'd tend to agree about all the inconsistencies, and not just in the physical construction debate. Seems to me a bit unkind, instead or populating the planet with a humanity designed properly to reflect God's supposed sanctity, to create abject creatures with the built in flaw of original sin that will send them to hell unless we manage to overcome our vile natures under duress from God. I fear that since reaching the age of reason my innate sense of fair play prevents me from taking so malign a deity seriously. Of course, there is nothing new under the sun and as you read you find that down the centuries a lot of people came to the same conclusion before you. I think I like the following best. In the hope of keeping him quiet for a few hours Freddy & I have bet Randolph [Churchill, son of Winston] 20 pounds that he cannot read the whole Bible in a fortnight. It would have been worth it at the price. Unhappily it has not had the result we hoped. He has never read any of it before and is hideously excited; keeps reading quotations aloud ‘I say, I bet you didn’t know this came in the Bible “bring down my grey hairs in sorrow to the grave”‘ or merely slapping his side & chortling ‘God, isn’t God a sheight!’ (Spelling modified to pass censor) Extract, letter from Evelyn Waugh to Nancy Mitford, 12 November 1944

We've had dog loving head cases from the States sticking their nebs in with dire threats of boycotting the entire country. Now we have a no doubt well meaning fella from Cork contributing a bunch of worn out hoary old platitudes about a few hooligans of both persuasions indulging in some recreational violence. What next? Perhaps in line with the policy of publishing the best of informed comment on local matters here the Tele will print a letter from somebody in China deploring that fact not that the City Council kills dogs but that we don't eat them.
