DonBCG, thank you very much for the explanation. I agree, this would be very bad. What can we do to stop or divert this inflation of the dollar on the international market? I mean what besides stop borrowing money? I'm affraid that won't be happening for at least 4 years.

Keep on truckn' Tex. I do hear a little more than what we get in the US. I have a daughter who lives in Switzerland and I have watched TV over there. You'd be amazed at what the rest of the world thinks of us. Next time we vote, let us all vote Libertarian. Does anyone know what mpg they get in Australia? There are long distances and rough traveling conditions there. I wonder if they are worried about efficiency or how they tow their toys. I'm not picking a fight with you, I'm just curious. And by the way , I have studied macro and microeconomics. We need to start teaching this to sixth graders and not wait until college.

Yes, Jared, I have watched Wall E. I love that movie because it shows how we humans can be so easily manipulated. But do you remember the end of the movie? The humans finally woke up and rebelled against their prison of comfort. That's what we need to do as well. But, where is our Wall E? We need to be jostled from our easy chairs and look around us. We need to live more simply and get out of our comfort zone to see what the rest of the world is up to.

Jared, I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT GUIDING OUR INNOVATION. I hate having the government involved in any private enterprise. But where is the private research being done???? Have you tried lately to buy the latest effecient energy products? No. They're still in pre-production research. The large companies are wasting big bucks to advertise what's new for the future, but you can't find any of this !!! Is it being put into production for the majority of the people??? No. Can you find some of these ideas being put into practice in European countries? Sometimes. Let the innovative American industrial complex get busy and leave the government out of the mix.

TXTJ, I agree that government interference is ruining this country. But so is your whining attitude. 'Efficiency is not in demand' ? How stupid is that? 'The income ratio is too high? Americans have joined unions in this day and age for greed instead of rights. Who voted in these bast....., oops, politicians anyway? The American people want it all without working for it. WE ARE TO BLAME. I am educated and continue to study the world around me all the time. When was the last time you watched or read anything educational???

I'm all for drilling on our own soil. I think we can do it rather well and still protect the environment. I'm not a rabid conservationist, thank you very much. But, I still get angry when OPEC can send us into panic at their whim. That just gives them more power. We need to set research into gear FAST that will get us free of foreign oil.

Global warming is a load of Pelosi! Geologic time moves far too slow to suite us humans, so we claim the dubious power of ruining the earth when she only tolerates our presence. We may poison ourselves and some species, but Nature will survive.

knutjb, your comments are exactly what I am talking about. Yeah!!! Ford is outselling Toyota. I'm thankful for that. But, they can do better.

Do you see Americans working for cheap labor prices any time soon? China still cures illness with herbs and massage. I like my natural remedies too, but, do you see most Americans settling for that? No, we want instant relief and cure. What's so wonderful about China's health care system? I hadn't heard anything on Fox news about how much better it is.

We still are innovative people, but we would rather sell our ideas to the highest bidder than put them into manufacture in our own country. Nobody steals ideas from us; WE SELL OUT!!!

If the car companies had done a better job of creating more efficient vehicles ten years ago, they wouldn't be in the soup today. This country needs to be completely re-tooled and brought up to date for manufacture of all kinds of goods. Using advanced ideas with modern manufacturing techniques to CREATE GOODS THAT THE WORLD WANTS is how the USA will stay on top. If we can't quit whinning and buckle down to working our brains harder, then we deserve to become a second-rate nation. I really don't want to see that happen. We are innovators!!!! Let's do what we do best.....MAKE THE BEST OF WHAT WE HAVE. Stop stimulating old, worn-out functions and invest in making energy out of trash.....more efficient transportation facilities (whatever works best for different areas of the country)....better energy transmission for different kinds of non-petroleum based energy sources......etc. etc. etc.. People, let's get our heads out of our pity pots and blame games and DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE !!!!!!!!!
