Addy243, I love using the iPad for web surfing, including HGTV.com. If you could explain how you sign up for this service through the Internet. Can you sign up on the iPad by going to a website by surfing for "Online Destop App"?
HGTV or Intense Debate sent me two Delusional Blogger cards lol and email nearly every day. I'm not ashamed to admit I harbor a bit of false hope while getting educated on sponsor products, or design ideas and construction techniques. Sometimes I amuse myself by reading a few blogger comments or even posting. Got to wrap It up now. I think the folks in white coats are coming to take me away again.
Lessie, I like your idea of an endless pool for some daily exercise, but I think it goes outside where it will look 'refreshing' from the main living space. Does anyone remember how Sunset Boulevard ends? In an earlier blog I was reminded of that classic Hollywood drama with respect to the GH's theatrical back stairs. That Hollywood film noir ends with a man dead floating in the pool and Gloria Swanson playing the faded silent film star Norma Desmond, owner of the grand home and the murderer, descending the stairs and making a delusional statement to the police who she percieves as a film crew, before finally saying, famously, 'All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up'. She was as crazy about returning to a faded film career as we bloggers are about winning this lovely GH. But don't despair, bloggers, because unlike Norma Desmond's fate, someone (or someone else) will win! That means as long as none of our houseguests wind up dead, we should feel entirely safe to dream big because thanks to HGTV, the ambush is just over a month away!
Love the halfed console table which is a great trick for constrained spaces like small apartment foyers. Also, the entry door that lets in all that natural light is great. Most mud rooms transition directly from a garage which is enclosed and usually light starved. The washer dryer is convenient for main floor dwellers and appropriately out of sight. Finally, the art work, pegged coat / bag rack and paint color are so well coordinated and beautiful to look at.
Germol, sorry to deliver the news on the pricey lots. I agree with you--the woods is a great view. But a little attention to future landscaping or other interesting features like a rock wall or just interesting siding material on the houses next door could turn the smaller lots into a positive.
Thanks, Mary and Laura, I appreciate the 30 percent water savings (with no change in performance) from these Moen fixtures throughout the home. Water is a precious resource with rising costs. How great is it that this home is plumbed to reuse the communities' grey water for flushing toilets? But my favorite Moen feature in the HGTV Green Home seems to have gone unnoticed or overlooked. If you look at the rotating camera of the Master Bath tour, you see two shower heads on opposing walls. Ok, mostly you use one. But how luxurious for those times when a couple is in a hurry or when they are spending sweetheart time--a shower for two!
Yes, germol, those are lots, with asking prices of $160k each. I read that zoning allows 10 feet of distance between the houses. That beautiful tree-filled view from the dining room could one day be of the neighbor's HVAC unit or electric meter. I'm sure some nice privacy landscaping will work, if needed.
I think the home lot is around 0.17 acres, but not sure. I read somewhere that Serenbe's zoning stipulates 10 feet between the houses. Someone else referred to open/shared land. That land may be open, but it is not "shared" by Serenbe residents. It is privately held, and may be subject to deed restrictions. It is supposedly a novel type of land management, where rural landowners were or are paid to not develop their land. I'm not certain if or what the legal implications are for guaranteeing open land in perpetuity.
Yes, Liz. That was a fancy two bedroom home in Plymouth, MA and the second bedroom was so small. These green homes have all been interesting, haven't they?
Lol. Just descend the theatrical "sunset boulevard' exterior stairs (like Glenn Close on the Broadway stage in the 90s--magical), ascend the internal stairs, and close the Cupola. Then descend the internal stairs and ascend the exterior stairs back to the garage and be on your way!
