When my brother, sister and I attended our mother's memorial service a few years ago, we met a man who had known our mom for many years. The service was held in an Elks Lodge and the alchohol flowed freely thoughout the service. My wife and I might have been the only Christians there.

After this man met us, he expressed surprise when he said, "I've known your mom for twenty years and she never told me she had any kids."

Some people are blessed with great moms. Others are challenged with not-so-great moms. Either way, in Christ we can overcome all things.

Michael - I thought a true Calvinist believed in "Irresistible Grace", which they practice by showing "irresistible grace" toward people like me and toward others with whom they may disagree doctrinally. But I may be wrong.

He doesn't intrude into your space uninvited. He knocks first.

I am learning to rest as I get older. When I take time off work to do something active, I routinely take one additional day off work for "down time". Last Friday I took the day off work to drive 300 miles to help my daughter move. Saturday we moved her household from one location to another. Sunday I drove home. But I did not return to work on Monday. I returned to work on Tuesday. On Monday, I watched TV, read, completed a couple of sudoku puzzles and mowed the lawn. When I returned to work on Tuesday I was refreshed and rested and ready to work.

I had to confess. Otherwise, I would have had to lie to her and Christians don't lie, right? It was obvious that something very unusual was going on when I didn't try to rush her out the door and when we got to church before everyone else did. She was going to eventually find out anyway, so I just confessed right then and there and got it over with.

I don't remember the details. It might have been a glue allergy.
