I am in Oz with a phone locked to Telstra. I use Ultrasn0w to unlock and use the phone on 3 Hutchinson. I have also installed a 3 carrier bundle kindly provided by a fellow Australian (I could not obtain the official 3 carrier bundle unless I used an official 3 iPhone plan... which I don't). I got the same message as you and accepted the update. Unfortunately it was for Telstra and my 3 bundle was taken over by Telstra settings. The only way I could get my 3 bundle operating again was to restore, jailbreak etc and waste a lot of time doing this. Unless you know the carrier bundle is for your service I would tread cautiously and steer away. Good luck, Paul

Why don't u guys/gals with purplera1n just leave this site? Because u all know in the long run the Dev Team are in it for everyone and are not selfish and u want the stuff that the Dev Team can deliver and will dump purplera1n in a flash. GROW UP PEOPLE. Even my 12 year old doesn't act as immature as a lot of posters on this site. Human nature really sucks...everyone thinking about themselves instead of others. Keep it up Dev Team, thankfully you appear to ignore the crap that is posted here most of the time. Keep up the great work.

All working well (inc MMS & Internet Tethering) - iphone 3g 16gb locked to Telstra Australia but using on 3 Hutchinson. Here are a couple of points that might help others.

1. I used iclarified tutorial and their ipsw.
2. You must have itunes 8.2 - I failed upgrade to 3.0 three times using itunes 8 until I woke up.
3. Do not have sim installed when running Redsn0w.
4. Make sure phone is off and itunes closed when installing Redsn0w
5. It took a while for phone to pick up signal after Ultrasn0w install. Nearly to the point I was about to do it all again. Then signal came through and has been stable since.
6. I did have access to a valid Telstra sim so after upgrade to 3.0 OS I connected to itunes with valid sim to validate phone. Then ran Redsn0w as per iclarified instructions. After Ultrasn0w I connected to itunes and it would not recognise my 3 hutchinson sim. Put Telstra sim back in and synced phone. Then put 3 Hutchinson sim back in an itunes was happy again.

All good 4 days later and now have MMS and Internet Tethering working.

Thanks Dev Team !!!

An_o_Neamus - I previously used a SIM adapter but changed to YS and have turfed the adapter. Version 0.9.1 worked for me with some manual adjustments. Didn't try any other version until 0.9.6 which works even better (no manual adjustments required). I'm in OZ with a locked phone to Telstra and using the 3 network. Everything is great for me and reception appears to be better than the SIM adapter. I'm basing this on more signal bars displaying. With the old SIM adapter I had to eject the card every time I synced in iTunes due to the sim card not being from a valid provider. With YS I no longer need to do this. All is good for me but you need to make up your own mind...and seeing you have a doubt the best way forward is probably to stay with the current.

Don't know if this will work, but with my old Turbo Sim card I had a similar problem which required putting the sim card into an authorised '3' phone that could access the '3' network. Not sure why but this 'reactivated' the card and I could then use the iphone and Turbo sim card again. I haven't had this problem since Yellowsn0w has been released but anything is worth a try.

I'm in Australia with 3 and my wife recently traveled to an area with no 3 coverage. The iphone is locked to another carrier. She needed to turn 3g off then turn the phone off. When the phone restarted it did not pick up the roaming carrier automatically. She needed to manually select the 'roaming' carrier in Settings/Carrier...When she returned to a 3 network area she needed to select 'Automatic' in the Carrier setting, then turn the phone off and back on. The 3 carrier was automatically picked up. A bit of a pain but at least it works.

In keeping with the Yellowsn0w theme I can't see why the iTouch jailbreak wasn't named Brownsn0w?? Maybe it was too 'lumpy' for the Dev Team to touch.

There is no problem with someone selling a service to unlock a phone (ie. undertake the physical unlock of the phone) as there would be quite a few people out there that are not confident enough to jailbreak and use Yellowsn0w. However when these companies simply repackage someone else's work and charge a fee it is not quite Christian. They should be upfront about the methods they use and allow the consumer to then make an informed decision. By hiding the fact they are using someone else's work actually shows they KNOW they are doing the wrong thing. Aside from using someone else's software, to offer 'their' solution in Beta state and charge people is criminal. No respectable software company would release a raw product still under beta testing and charge people for it. This also shows the moral standing of Jody and his colleagues.

Thankfully there are more good people out there than the likes of Jody so a couple of bad apples in the world make for variety in life. Besides, if it were not for Jody we would not have this great post :)
