Ron Edmondson : Free Fridays: Book Giveaway

Wow, people sure do flock to book giveaways, don't they? Just proves that the publishing industry still has life in it. I probably will read all three books this summer after school is out--right now I have four books to read at school. I'll buy the three books myself, so count me out of the contest. But, I just pray that everyone who is responding to your post (and you, of course) will have a wonderful, blessed weekend in Christ!

Ron Edmondson : How an Introvert Handles Awkward Situations

Great conversation, Ron! God dealt with my hesitancy to be in large or small groups of people by sending me back to high school as a teacher. Learning to engage my students has helped me with my social skills. I look at my interactions with other people as opportunities to learn new things. It's amazing how much people know. I love learning and that love helps me overcome shyness.

Michael Hyatt Blog : The Future of Publishing

In my family and my high school, I have seen both sides of this video. This school year, my 11th grade curriculum has included To Kill a Mockingbird and across the board, my students have resisted reading it. Yet, I also have included a independent novel project where my students could choose any novel they liked and then complete novel response packets for their books. The kids enjoyed the project and did well. Since today's readers embrace their freedom of choice, our challenge is to provide them with content they can't help but to choose. I love interacting with people online and I'm learning a lot about myself. I believe this communication between us all is going to open doors for sharing God's absolute love for the world. Thanks for your post!

Michael Hyatt Blog : Keeping Your Word

As far as business dealings are concerned, I keep my commitments. When I sign a contract, I feel that I have the obligation to follow through and meet the expectations of that contract. In fact, I use my signed teaching contract to deflect my students' complaints about the rules that I insist they keep--I tell them I signed a contract and get paid for enforcing the rules. Sometimes I do have a problem with speaking without thinking things through. It's not so much a problem now as it was when our children were young. Sometimes I had to back-track on "promises" I made because circumstances changed. Of course that frustrated our kids. My husband had the solution--just say "The Lord willing, we'll..." There were times I should have listened to him better.
Michael Hyatt Blog : 10 Reasons Why You Aren’t Done Yet

Thanks again, Michael for a timely post--I'm going to print it off tonight. I would add prioritizing goals to the list. I've actually had to make some tough decisions this school year because I can't do everything all at the same time and I can't be everything to everyone who "needs" me. I have three major goals--teach my students well, work on my book (writing it through posts and preparing to find a publisher and to market it), and keep my husband happy (he is!). My children and grandchildren haven't seen that much of me, but they'll survive and summer is coming!. My goals for the summer can be summed up in one word--overhaul. Since I am planning major overhauls in my work spaces at home and school, in my blog as I finish my book, and in my appearance which needs updating, I would appreciate a little prayer from everyone. : ) My recent post #34 THE DOING OF BELIEVING: FAITH (2)

Michael Hyatt Blog : Book Notes: Switch by Chip Heath and Dan Heath

I've always loved change--in fact, in my younger years, I loved it so much that I gave my husband fits. I would start a project, but never finish it because a better idea came along. Fortunately, for the sake of our marriage, I began writing and that discipline settled me down. I now know how to finish projects in a timely manner, and my love for change has matured nicely. I would like a copy of Chip and Dan's book because I want to understand the psychology of making change easier for people. If there is one challenge that I see the realm of Christianity, it is the reluctance to change. With all the advances in understanding language and science, the inability to change what we believe can be a real hindrance to growth in the Lord. I believe that the Heath book would help me lock in on strategies that I could us to help nudge people into thinking new thoughts. I also like that it is an easy read because, between writing and teaching, I don't have time to struggle through a book. My recent post #34 THE DOING OF BELIEVING: FAITH (2)

Ron Edmondson : Teaching Children Cooperation

With seven children, cooperation was a must for our family, and even today, as adults, they all cooperate with each other. Cooperation is also important in children's educations. Strong research evidence shows that children learn best in cooperative groups. They can often learn better from one another than from the teacher. As a result, I've designed my curriculum around cooperative learning, and it seems to be working.

Ron Edmondson : Leaders Don't Give Up When Leading Gets Difficult

I imagine the greatest test in leadership is all the drama involved (much like in teaching teenagers)--that drama probably trumps any other leadership challenges. How wonderful it is that we can go to God and ask Him to make good out of the worst drama. I think one thing to remember is that every person wants to be loved and if we make sharing God's absolute love our top priority, the drama and its stress may ease up.

Michael Hyatt Blog : The Third Ingredient of a Successful Blog

If a person googles my brand, my blog comes up first on the list. If I want to drive up traffic to my site (now averaging between 500-600 visits each week), do I need to do more to my blog design or do I need to work on promoting my brand? I will be ready to push harder this summer when I finish writing my book through my blog, so I know I will have to have some wisdom on what to do. Maybe someday, I'll be in the financial position to hire someone who knows what they're doing!
Michael Hyatt Blog : Shift: The Essence of Leadership

This is a little off topic, but I've been thinking a lot about this. Our world is always changing with new understandings causing great growth in many different realms (science, business, leadership, etc.). However, how many of us are stuck on the "Christian" understandings that are centuries old? I appreciate your willingness to be in the front of the leadership changes, and I am praying that believers in Christ will re-evaluate what they believe. The unwillingness to "shift gears" can hamper the message of God's absolute love--a message with the power to change our world forever.
Stuff Christians Like - Jon Acuff : Wishing the snakes would quit biting.

God gave the Israelites the solution--He just didn't wave a magic wand. The snakes represent evil in this world, and the bronze serpent that Moses lifted up represents deliverance from evil. Jesus Christ likened himself to that bronze serpent (John 3:14), and it is what Christ accomplished on his cross that enables us to overcome evil. Christ destroyed the force of evil and sin (Hebrews 2:14, II Corinthians 5:21). Again, God does not wave a magic wand and cause all our problems to melt away, but He does give us His knowledge, understanding, and wisdom which empowers us to defeat those things that seek to destroy us.

Michael Hyatt Blog : The Five Marks of Authentic Leadership

Being authentic or real in a world where so much is deceptive is a real challenge and takes a concentrated focus. Thanks, Michael, for sharing the qualities that not only make effective business leaders, but also effective educators, parents, and believers in Christ. People recognize authenticity and are drawn to it wherever they find it. My prayer is that we all find the reality of God's absolute love and mirror its authenticity to all we come in contact with. I am so looking forward to the change that is coming to our world!
