Look, the Mayor could declare a cure for cancer and the council would demand that the company & the building that the cure was discovered in be BURNT TO THE GROUND!

It is SEATTLE politics. Whatever the mayor hates, the council loves. Whatever the mayor loves, the council hates.

I am no fan of the mayor but had he DISCLOSED this information early, some city council member (with connections to current land owners) would have spilled the beans a long time ago, thus ARTIFICALLY raising the property prices before the different property in SODO could have been purchased.

Christ! We have an individual that is willing to pay for a new arena and the local government will argue this until the cows come home. There will be no better deal.....EVER! If this gets screwed up, no other franchise will have any interest in dealing with Seattle.... EVER!

if property owners had gotten wind of this, the price of buying all this land would have skyrocketed. The city council still gets their say, demand more studies, do anything they want. It just got delayed a little.

You do know that the proposed arena location is in the STADIUM district.... right? The public's contribution will be in BONDS (not increased or new taxes) that will be paid back by the revune the arena brings while it is operating. A vote on bonds?

Finally, there will NEVER..... and I mean EVER..... be a sweeter deal that what is being presented to us right now. Most other cities are expected to pay almost the full amount for an arena or stadium.
