After reading many of the comments and devoting much thought to how we can best save the Republic, I am convinced that the keystone issue is term limits for the U.S. Congress. I believe this is an issue that both left and right can support, and which can be done at the state level thru a proposed constitutional amendment, without the approval of congress. I don't propose that this is the end-all solution, but I believe it is the best beginning!

By eliminating the professional politicians from congress, I believe we can return to the founders' idea of citizen-legislators, who will represent "us", since they are "us". I believe it would be a great starting point, and that we should focus on it as the first priority, laying the foundation for the other worthy priorities that have been so well expressed in this forum.

Glenn, I am with you. We must renew America if we want it to survive as the beacon of freedom it has been for generations. I have been thinking "Where do we start?" and "How can we bring so many people with differing opinions together to act in unison?", when it hit me. A powerful, singular idea which is not partisan, and around which all political persuasions (I think) can unite - TERM LIMITS for Congress! If the people rise up and demand reasonable term limits for both the House and the Senate, we can end the reign of the professional politician, and put more "ordinary people" in charge to represent us "ordinary people". But Congress won't initiate this on their own - it must be the people who rise up and demand this from the state legislatures!

What do you think? Is this an idea we can all get behind?
