Damn, 6 years older than I am. Will hit the gym today
Thats my point, in a world with unemployment over 8% and a nuclear armed Iran, nobody gives a flying F about confronting gays.
Makes sense. Santorum suffered one of the worst electoral defeats in Senate history for an incumbant not facing a scandal. He's unelectable in Pennsylvania, and he's unelectable as POTUS. He just doesn't understand that being a social-crusader in an economic/foreign-policy election cycle just wont work. He's doing an excellent job of alienating Independants and Libertarians. He's basically the Republican version of George McGovern. The candidate that the core of the party loves but that has no legs beyond that.
I find it disturbing how few people commenting on this realize that.
A. Puerto Rico is already US territory
B. Puerto Ricans are already US Citizens
C. Statehood is determined under the Enabling act of 1802 and a few other laws, but it basically means that it's up to the Puerto Ricans, and you have almost no say in it, so I'd stop thinking about it.
<shrug> Republicans have to spend money on the primaries, Obama does not. Plus there is a lot of money waiting on the sidlines for the outcome. Once the party has a nominee, the money will flood in.
of course that number would go up by another +187 if the F-22 could fly a mission without starving it's pilot of oxygen and killing him...
We deal with dictators every day, See Saudi Arabia (no free press, women stoned to death on the streets, no freedom of speech et.) See Pakistan, See Bahrian, See every South American military junta in the 1980's. We have no noble intentions toward the Cuban people. The Cuba embargo is just a bribe to the Cuban exile community for votes. That and a feel-good measure so that are can continue with the myth that it's Act III of a John Wayne movie and we're bringing "freedom" to the world. We have an embargo against Cuba because they're broke and have nothing we want. The day a new oil field is discovered off their coast and they'll be our best friends, it'll all be about improving relations, and restoring ties, and engagment and dialogue.....
You only really need 2 nukes. One to prove that you're willing to use them, and then a 2nd to show that can do it again. Without force of will, 2 or 200 or 2000 is irrelevent.
(Money + Free time + a culture of people who refuse to say no to you) = trouble.
It's a simple formula, true for celebrieties, true for teenagers.
That philosophy would kill the cruise industry. Put 4,000 people on a boat for a week with a bunch of them over 65, and statistics tell you that fatailities are not all that uncommon. They put em in the freezer till the cruise ends, they don't sail for home.
