Spiritual Journey : Power Of Positive Thinking

Shafin, You're so right about affirmations that are unbelievable. I find that most people who create subliminal tracks don't seem to understand this and hence, their products are useless. Instead of "I am wealthy" they should say : "I am working every day toward creating wealth." Or instead of "I choose to become wealthy", "I choose to work toward becoming wealthy". We have to do the footwork to get anywhere. Owen

Doberman Dan : 1Shoppingcart Was Down All Day Yesterday

Dan, I would assume there was some of the standard language in 1shoppingcart's terms of service, or whatever they call theirs, saying you indemnify them for any loss of business due to things beyond their control. So they're covered. I had a hosting company screw me over and shut down my site based on a misunderstanding and they wouldn't do a thing. I had to quickly change hosts. I like your idea of a new/repeat mailing, maybe offering a little discount to make up for the inconvenience. That might get the fence-sitters to commit. Just don't make it sound like all the "gooroos" who send out a followup saying the response to their offer was so great it crashed their server and people couldn't order so they're extending their offer. Those crack me up! If they told the truth, they'd be saying: "The response wasn't as good as I expected so I'm extending the offer in hopes of making some money." Owen

Doberman Dan : You Screwed Up... Now What?

Dan, You're so right with your comment that the majority don't handle their screw-ups well. I'd add they also as a general rule can't be trusted to do what they say they're going to do. It's not like it was when this old dude was young. I wrote a blog post on it sometime back that you might enjoy: http://man2woman.net/blog/to-do-or-not-to-do/ I'd love to do your webinar. The only problem I have with these things is they're usually scheduled at times when I'm at work. I'll check your details and see if I'll be available.
Doberman Dan : This Beat The Control by 60%!

60%???? Wow! Now I see why everyone's doing it. As to why people prefer video, I'd guess you hit in on the head (not butt) Dan, with the literacy thing. Or maybe other people are like me and are sick and tired of the long 10-pages-on-one-page online sales letters. Which sometimes are written by those lacking in literacy skills, making them seem even longer. Reading them is too much like work, along with being time-consuming. I've never played around with Power Point or Camtasia but I've got them. Guess I should give it a shot. Owen

Doberman Dan : The Secret Behind The Secret

Now this one's enough to make a grown man cry. The guitar I had before my Gibson was stolen from a house where my band practiced. You ready? It was an original white Fender Telecaster. I had paid about $100-150 for it, from a buddy who had gotten hold of an original Les Paul Custom. I didn't like the neck on the Les Paul, but it sure had a great tone! The Fender, on the other hand, was easy to play. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. Buy the Eastman if you like it and NEVER let go of it!

When I bought that Gibson in about 1968 it was $500. Not sure I want to know what they go for now. :-) Worse, I wonder what an old L5 is going for! Re: my website. Yes, it's something I'm interested in and it's related to the online business I've had for 8 years. I've been in the business of selling high-quality saw blades and thought, what the heck, might as well sell the saws too. Besides, linking to the new site from my aged, highly ranked site, can't hurt.

Doberman Dan : The Secret Behind The Secret

Dan, I once owned a guitar that looked a bit like that one: Gibson ES175. SWEEEET sound! And sweet action. On the Law of Attraction theme, I've figured out the advantage to all the visualizing and putting up a picture of what you want is it helps keep you motivated. That is, assuming you understand you need to WORK for what it is you want. The rest of it, especially the positive reinforcement, just keeps your focus on what you want (like opportunity) so when it shows up, you recognize it and grab it. And having a goal and craving it, gives you encouragement to figure out the HOW. The part of the Law of Attraction that never fails is the getting what you focus on in life. I watch my 22 yr old daughter struggle over and over again but subconsciously, she likes her life that way. It gives her the opportunity to blame everyone else. And hey, that doesn't require any work!
Doberman Dan : The Death Of Direct Mail?

Dan, I think the biggest reason I don't like offers via email is I get just too damn many of them every day! From legit companies I've done business with and more from the gooroos trying to get me to spend my money to learn to make money. Yesterday I un-subscribed from 5 or 6 mail lists because they were all involved in the same giganto-launch. Gurus, hell! They're mostly just money suckers! I wonder what would happen if someone sent out one of the "make money on the Internet" offers by snail mail? Owen

Doberman Dan : Your Last Excuse

When you think about what you said, that most people go through life believing things and not even knowing why, it makes sense that when you challenge their beliefs and their beliefs have no personal foundation, that they're going to feel like someone's shaking their tree. And that scares them. They're afraid they're going to have to dump the old programming and consciously come up with new beliefs. The 98% aren't willing or able to do that.
Doberman Dan : Your Last Excuse

Dan, One thing I'll say is you made me think. You made me realize I've never been part of the 98%, even as a kid. Maybe it was my parents, I don't know. But I've always questioned things, in fact the more people spout something, the more I doubt it. I have a theory and religion and politics are good examples of it: A lot of people feel the need to have others believe as they do, even when they have no idea why they believe it. I've had people get very upset with me because I wouldn't change my belief system to match theirs. The bottom line is, if you and I don't agree with their beliefs, some shred of doubt creeps into their very being. And they don't like that. Keep it comin' Dan! And give Donner a hug for me. Sometimes I miss my dogs.

Doberman Dan : The Power Of Social Proof

Dan, I can't think of a better person to write a sort of "memoirs of working with and learning from Gary Halbert". Considering that so much of your communication style came from you time with Gary, it would almost be like Gary writing it himself! You probably don't need the money and I bet you could make more using the time doing other things. So do it for the love of the man and for posterity. It will come out better that way, anyway. Owen

Doberman Dan : Contrarian Success

Dan, "If they would just take a few minutes to apply a logical sequence of reasoning and review of the facts, it would be immediately obvious the emperor is buck nekkid!" Tying that in directly with your wisdom in not following what everyone says to do with your dogs, here's a sequence of rational thinking that's totally lacking in 99.9% of dog owners AND vets: What is a dog, if not a cousin to a wolf? Have you ever seen a wolf cook? Does anyone cook that rabbit the wolf caught? No? Then why does everyone buy that crappy canned dog food? It's cooked! I fed my greyhounds raw ground beef instead, but I'll admit I mixed it with a high-quality, corn-free kibble (lamb and rice based). All three of my guys, that were all neutered when they left racing, lived to 13 years. Anyway, I like and agree with your way of thinking, you contrarian. :-) Owen

Doberman Dan : My Simple Secret To Making More Money... And Having A Better Life

I think you make a great point, Dan. One that I've seen a few others making lately. Not to the point of a yellow legal pad and pen, but saying the same thing about checking emails. I do check my business emails first thing in the morning, and those are often orders coming in or questions from potential customers. In my other email program, which I check after conducting business, I mostly delete, delete, delete and only read posts like the ones from Doberman Dan. So now I guess I could say I'm wasting my time reading and commenting on your blog! But I won't - I usually learn something here. One question: Why do they call them "smart phones" when they're so damn stupid? Me, I don't even give out my cell phone number, for the same reason I don't watch TV: I don't want anyone dictating what I pay attention to. Hope you get to feeling better soon! Owen

Doberman Dan : Poop In The Pool

Great use of metaphor, Dan! Have you tried using that one in a direct mail campaign yet? :-) Number 3: Kick those people out of your back yard! So true and so necessary. Also often difficult. Unfortunately for many of us, we work for or with those people. Or, as you said, we might be married to them. I'm working tirelessly to be in a position to get ALL the poopers out of my back yard. And it DOES take work! Owen

Doberman Dan : Successful Street Level Entrepreneurship

Thanks for the great post, Dan. Right now I'm sitting here choking on the horse pill of reality you gave us. Watch out for those dream stealers! I don't have to clean windows to stuff my pockets with enough moolah to start a kitchen table business, I started my first one (with very little investment) in 2002. Without the benefit of any of the blood-sucking gurus out there today. Hell, the gurus of today were still wearing diapers when I started out! But one thing that's often said today that I didn't hear back then: multiple streams of income. I wish I had replicated my efforts back then when it was easy to get the rankings in Yahoo (Google didn't even exist in 2002). My greatest impediment to developing and growing new business ventures today is the blood-sucking employer I work for 40 hours a week. And I'm about to the point of tossing in that bloody towel so I can get the act into overdrive. The Peruana has a good job and I can get benefits through her so why am I still wasting my time working to make someone else money? (Like you writing your post to motivate yourself, writing this paragraph is cathartic for me.) Hey, the Colombiana might be smart along with persistent. According to all I read from International Living (part of Agora) investing in property in other countries beats real estate in this country hands-down! There are some great developing areas in Brazil, Uruguay, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and even Mexico, where you can get in on the ground floor if you have a little money. You can buy a working vineyard in Argentina for chump change, too - "chump change" being a relative term here. I'd suggest if Sandrita finds a good offshore opportunity, match her investment. I wish my other half had the chutzpah to get off her duff and take advantage of the real opportunities her bi-lingual abilities present. But no, her dream is to live and work in the USA long enough to be eligible for citizenship and Social Security. Me, my dream is to get out of this country and live like a king on a pauper's ransom without caring about Social Security. Owen

Doberman Dan : How To Change People

Dan, I agree on the point of sending your thoughts in emails to your subscribers: For me, at least, the teaser with a link to your blog is more welcome. And I ALWAYS click on that link. As to changing people, it's impossible to tell at a glance which person is ready and which one isn't. But I really don't see you as trying to change people, I see it as offering information that will help them change themselves, take it or leave it. A few years ago I read a good book called The Power of Losing Control and in it, the author said if you want to change someone's opinion, don't argue with them because we're all correct in our opinions. They're based on our individual perspectives. What you do is give someone enough information to change their perspective and their opinion will change. I think this relates also to changing their outlook on themselves, i.e., "You're a smart guy and you have the opportunity to improve your life and it's not that hard." This is what you do and there's nothing wrong with it. (I could be wrong about what book that came from - I've read more than a few self-help books.) Owen

Doberman Dan : How To Make MILLIONS In The Guru Business

Thanks for the post, Dan. I couldn't agree more. And believe me, I've spent more than chump change on programs offered by the gurus. Any time I see the "auto-pilot income" phrase I quiver with dread about the BS I know is coming. Now, truth be told, some of these gurus really are making a lot of money selling stuff, but the reality is they started making money several million web sites ago (meaning before the last 10 million web sites were created by people trying to make easy money). And now the way they do it on "auto-pilot" is by paying other people to do all the work. So the bottom line is, while they're enjoying a their lifestyles of the rich and famous, for the buyer of their courses to make one buck, they're going to have to make it a full time job right from the get-go. Guys like Mark Ling come to mind here. I wrote a blog piece about the dishonesty in IM gurudom and raised the question, if a guy is making all the money he claims selling stuff - especially affiliate marketing - why would he take the time to create and market a course teaching others his methods? Let's see: continue making 8 figures a year and increase it by replicating, or take the time to create and market a course teaching his trade secrets that might make him 50 grand? Dan, I think there are a lot of people who would find an honest approach refreshing. You've got the beginning of a good list right here. And with referrals from your initial list, you could easily triple it. Just ask us. You don't need no stinking old boys club.

Doberman Dan : Marketing Lessons From The FIFA World Cup

The Peruana in my house never watches sports except the Wold Cup. And Peru didn't even get in it this time around. I don't see the point of the game, really, especially when it comes to TV. Never have. Of course I grew up watching American football that's made for TV. Hey, I couldn't agree more about the major media outlets, in particular television. That's why I quit watching it entirely years ago. Ok, on occasion I'll catch a few minutes of History Channel or something and a few times a season a baseball game. Come to think of it, last time I watched any TV was when I was home from work with a flu. Dan, I seem to recall a little while ago you had a sign-up for advance notice of something having to do with your coaching program. I think I signed up for that notification. Is this the same one?
