Big Government : Why Health Care Reform Must Pass

My only problem with this is the "power" the White House will derive from a victory on healthcare. The victory will be seen as a way to jam additional socialist legislation through - comprehensive immigration reform, cap and trade, and last but certainly not least, card check. If some or all of the above pass we will not see the America we knew in our lifetime.

Big Government : Why Michigan is the Worst: Moronic Governor Proclaims Today 'Meatout Day'

OK so I must admit, I did not read the whole "article". And, I have not read any of the comments. So, you may ask, why am I here, commenting. Well, I feel like I must state the obvious.......Why is anyone here, talking about someone, who cares who he/she is, who wants us to stop eating meat???? Really???? Now???? With all that is going on in our country today???? Ladies and gentlemen, I hate to break it to you, but this is the very least of our worries. After all, the healthcare bill which is about to pass, will settle all these argurments, and give us a Star Trek Utopia, where all men and women are not just created equal, but of equal talent and worth. Oops, I forgot that Kirk, Spock, Scotty, Chekov, Soloo, etc., were a bit more equal than others. After all, they were smarter than the rest of crew (oops, not really allowed in the "everyone" is "equal" world, and they got more screen time than the rest of the crew!!!!! Ladies and gentlemen, I hate to break it to you, but this is not a fight worth fighting. Not now. Not in the current political climate. We are in a fight for the very freedom we hold dear. The freedom to choose our own course, our own life, and, the freedom to suffer or enjoy the consequences thereof. I will continue to eat red meat to my dying day, AS LONG AS I RETAIN THE RIGHT TO DO SO.

Big Government : Madame Speaker, Let Every Member Stand and Be Counted

The best I can say here is thank you John Boehner for standing up. And, thank you for boiling down the 1200 page Senate page bill to a few soundbites......that do not address all of my concerns with this bill. But, I must disagree on several points - FIRST and foremost, we are not a representative democracy, we are a representative republic. Second, this vote, for President Obama, IS all about his presidency. If this bill fails, he will be a lame duck until 2012, and if I, one lowly citizen knows that, then he must know that also. If Obama cannot get this passed then he will not affect any other "major" legislation during his current presidential term. That being said, let us look at the downside of the healthcare legislation passing.....If this legislation passes and is signed into law, regardless of the state's rights lawsuits that will follow, Obama will have carte blanch to pass whatever he has up his sleeve. And, his sleeve is a big one - "Immigration Reform" is simply waiting in the wings. If healthcare passes, "comprehensive" immigration reform (ally ally umps in free) will pass without so much as a wimper. When that passes all those illegals will not only get free healthcare (which they are getting now), but they will have the right to vote. Care to wager how they will vote in the next election???? After "comprehensive" immigration reform comes one of two things - either Crap and Tax or Card Check. My bet is on Card Check since BIG UNION seems to have an unprecedented seat at the presidential table. If card check is passed then we are simply a spitball away from total communism. My point here is that "healthcare" legislation, as currently proposed, is simply a giant foot in the door to a way a life that is distinctly not American. If we go down this road, it is a long, long haul back to where our Founders began this great country. Fellow patriots - we have much work to do.

Big Government : The Constitution Matters: It Means What It Says

"This is just one example from his book. If you read it all, you will see that Liu’s text repeatedly seeks to degrade judicial philosophies of restraint, in an attempt to give license to judicial activism, by saying essentially “everyone does it.” Even the majority in Heller." And, as my parents would say, and as I have said to my own children '"If all of your friends were jumping off a bridge, would you?" I have learned that just because "everyone does it" does not make it right. Although, Congress seems to exempt itself from this rule. The older I get, the easier it is to see right through the madness that is the left. I grew up a latent child of the 60's (born in 59). I remember being enamored (at age 13) of the "flower children" hanging out at the restaurants my parents used to frequent. I remember my father (whom I loathed at the time) saying something like - This country will go to hell when they (the flower children) get to run the country. At the time, I could not have agreed with him less. He was a close-minded jerk who only thought of himself, or so I thought. Today, however, to my utter disdain, I must admit he was right. And, I am afraid. I am afraid that We The People may not be able to turn the tide, that we may not have the spine to put a stop to this utter nonsense and declare once and for all that We The People are in charge. We The People have autonomy over what our children and grandchildren are taught. We The People have the ultimate power - but only if we decide to use it. Are we Americans or are we globalists? That is the question.

“We use the term constitutional fidelity to describe this approach. To be faithful to the Constitution is to interpret its words and to apply its principles in ways that sustain their vitality over time. Fidelity to the Constitution requires judges to ask not how its general principles would have been applied in 1789 or 1868, but rather how those principles should be applied today in order to preserve their power and meaning in light of the concerns, conditions, and evolving norms of our society. In this book, we develop a different approach to interpretation that respects the endurance of our written Constitution and explains how its text and principles retain their authority and legitimacy over decades and centuries.” Bla, bla, bla. The above is a very long, legalese paragraph defending the "legislation from the bench" approach to the Constitution. I have to wonder, is the Bible subject to the same "rewrite"? Are the 10 commandments subject to interpretation? For believers, Christian and Jew, the Bible, (or at least the Old Testament), is the foundation of their belief system. So as a believer and an American, how does one reconcile the belief that the Constitution is a "living" document, subject to the whims of each generation, with the belief that the 10 commandments were written in stone and immovable? Just saying....

Or, simply put - anyone who doesn't think like they do. Oops, sorry, I intimated that liberals actually think and reason. It's like living in a subdivision with a HOA - every house and yard must look the same. No individuality allowed, nothing outside of the defined "norm" allowed.....It's an easy life if one does not want to decide what kind of grass to plant, what kind of plants to put in their flowerbeds, what color fence to erect......The HOA rules decide for everyone, therefore, no real thought is needed......

Big Journalism : CNN Overnight Thread: Liberals, Atheists Are Smarter Than Conservatives; They Sing Better, Too

OK, I must admit as a late comer to the discussion here that I did not take the time to read all the comments that came before. However, the drivel set forth in this "study" simply made my blood boil! So, let me get this straight - conservatives are stupid and liberals are smart! Wow! What a shocker. Let me guess. The think tank who published this study was liberal? Wow. Who would have guessed. I, being one lone conservative, without the "benefit" of a college degree, yet earning a three figure salary on the basis of my own willingness to learn, am STUPID. Is anyone else pissed off? Is anyone else out there as pissed of as I am? Has anyone else out there scratched and clawed their way up the ladder, without benefit of "education" or "family"? Don't call us stupid. We are quite the opposite of liberals, yes. But, we are not stupid. It is your ignorance that will be your undoing.

Big Journalism : Why Did ABC News Cover Up the John Edwards' Sex Tape?

While you may not "feel" it was ABC's duty to inform their viewers of the full facts, journalist integrity calls for nothing less. And, the story here is not that ABC did not inform their viewers of the existence of the tape as a part of an ongoing "story", it is the fact that ABC was SILENT in the face of an ongoing "story", thereby making ABC complicit in the coverup of Edwards' behavior.

A long, long time ago. I can still remember how that King used to fill my bookshelves......Sorry, reminiscing. I was at one point a huge King fan. Bought every single book the day it came out and devoured them faster than most. However, now I am all grown up, a worried grandmother and overtaxed working citizen of this once great nation and I have no intention of feeding the liberal machine any more than I have to and that includes supporting blowhards like King. His books have gone downhill since the Gunslinger series, while his liberal mouth just keeps blabbering on. Quite frankly, I have "donated" enough of my money to his estate. Besides, right now I am far too busy reading up on the American History and Civics that I should have been taught years ago......and much to my surprise - enjoying the lessons.

The Fonz said - "Sally doesn't sound all that pro-Choice to me. How about all the murderers and lowlifes that are brought in to this world? And the fringe women who get pregnant under duress, single mothers, etc.... are more likely to produce a criminal so I say they should be encouraged. Tebow's situation isn't even relevant here - being born to a CHRISTIAN COUPLE - not some crackhead ghetto welfare mammy." Sounds like Fonz has been watching the View. Didn't Joy B say something very similar? And how very scary is this whole line of thinking????? How can anyone know what a child will turn out to do in life? Who died and made Fonz God? This line of thinking screams eugenics. And we all know where that led......

Big Journalism : Why Are Feminists Trying to Abort the Tim Tebow Pro-Life Ad?

I think Lady in Red needs to go look in the mirror. Human beings are not dogs or cats or parakeets ( I have a few) or fish. So, it is OK to put a suffering animal down. I get it. No argument there. But to put down a human being because he may suffer? Hello......we all suffer, to some extent or another. Through the miracle of modern medicine, amputees can lead full and successful lives. Can a horse with a bum leg survive without man's help? Lady likes to invoke God. Fine. Did God create man before or after all the other creatures of the Earth? Did God create all creatures great and small and STOP with man? God gave man intelligence and as a result, the ability to evolve intellectually. While the rest of the animal kingdom has evolved since the beginning of time, only man has evolved to the point where he can save (medically) the life of almost any creature God created. Yes, dear Lady, we are a part of Nature, but God's plan made us dominant in Nature and provided to us the right of choice. God gave humans (not animals or plants or rocks) the right to choose between good and evil. He gave us sympathy and empathy - something the rest of the animal kingdom does not have - they operate on sheer instinct. And, that is why they are lesser beings. We, as humans are above instinct for we have the power of reason. In today's society, when a four month old "fetus" can live outside the womb and go home with his/her mother and father as a viable baby, to argue that abortion is the only viable option is a wasted argument. In our arrogance, we seem to believe that "our choice" is God's choice. Nothing could be further from the truth.

You are quite wrong. There are plenty of people who cannot conceive who are willing and able to nuture a child to adulthood. The choice is not - have a baby and be unable to provide for it's basic needs, the choice is have a baby and do your best to provide for it's basic needs, or give the child up for adoption. And, while we are at it, please, as a Quaker, tell me what happens to the soul of the person who chooses the "superior" option of aborting and "unwanted, unloved, unnurtured little person? Better yet, what does the Quaker belief system hold as the fate of that "unwanted, unloved, unnurtured little person? For the most part, in today's medically advanced society, abortion is the EASY way out. It's the way a teenager does not have to live up to consequences of his and her actions. It's a cop out. It is a way of never having to deal with the child you put up for adoption to come knocking at your door. It's a way out of the guilt. That's it. Abortion is a way out, not a way of coping, not a way of making amends, not a way of changing one's life, merely a sociological accepted way out.

I have to give you kudos for your viewpoint and the willingness to state it. That being said, "sentient" life is not an issue for those who wish to quash this advertisement (free speech), for it is from this same mind-set that we get all forms of "Save The..." you fill in the blanks. The only thing I have not really heard yet is Save The Rocks, though, at some point, I am sure that that is coming as well. Some people, John Holdren, Obama's Science Czar has, in the past, advocated that birth control be administered through the water as an effort to "stabilize" population growth. Now, I must admit that this position of Mr. Holdren's was taken about 30 years ago, but......take a look at China today. "Sentient life" is not an issue with the progressives - look like me, think like me, be like me, cookie cutter life is.

Reminds me of an old I Love Lucy show......Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel go off for a weekend to a romantic lake house. All the girls can think about is how they will get quality time with their husbands. All the guys want to do is fish and play poker. After a time, Lucy gets pissed off and shoots the fishing (row) boat full of holes, just before the guys, feeling guilty, announce that they want to take the girls out for a midnight cruise. Ricky even brings his guitar for "serenading". Well, you can image the sight, when, after rowing to the middle of lake, and after Ricky begins his "serenade", the boat starts to spring leaks........Lucy, with all the class she can muster, begins to try to fill the holes, now spouting water like a fountain, with pieces of her chewing gum.....Classic comedy. And somehow very like the state of "government" every time it tries to "fix" something.....Look - the clowns are leading the parade!

However, with the state on the verge of bankruptcy and it's voters fleeing the state at the rate of blood from a stuck pig, this is sheer folly. Why should this concern the rest of us? Well, if our federal government continues on it's current course - bailing out car companies, banks, insurance companies (AIG) and bribing other state Senators for purposes of passing a federal healthcare bill, who is to say that bailing out failed states is not next on the list? And let's face it folks - that is our money - our federal taxes and our children's future earnings that is being spent. I did not sign up for this.
