Iowa D is designed for Wisc., not Mich. 4 receiver sets with 2 running threats, including Minor who is much better than expected, really stretches our big LBs. Tolzien is not that mobile, and he stares down his receivers. Our 4/3 should force some mistakes, while forcing Clay to run laterally. I think Iowa has a stronger passing game that can score more quickly and will force Wisc to try to pass instead of generate 7 minute drives.
21-16 Iowa.
Seems like Forcier doesn't like throwing into coverage, so if nobody is wide open, he takes off, thus the reason he was their rushing leader vs MiSt. This is not your dad's Mich OL. They are challenged delivering the ball from the Center to the QB in the air, they are not good at opening holes for the backs, and are not great vs the pass rush, another reason Forcier takes off. He could have a long day vs Norm's 6 Seconds of Hell, who won't let him step up in the pocket. Their DL is solid, but the secondary has problems covering the seems in zone. If the Hawk passing game gets all the receivers involved, including RB's, short, medium, and long passes, then we could have a Statement game on National TV.
I thought he either deserved a Heisman or an Acadamy Award late in the Indiana game, after he attempted to hurdle the blockers and landed on the shoulder. He appeared to be in a world of pain, yet managed to throw that duck in the endzone for the final TD. He did not seem as athletic vs MiSt, but I wasn't sure if that was pain or rain. He's definitely a 4th quarter guy, but you are so right, Notre Dame doesn't have a Pat Angerer, and he's exposing himself to serious injury if he continues this show in the Big 10.
Marc, thank you for asking these questions. So much more interesting than other people's interviews. Wouldn't you love to know what Forcier was thinking when he came out of film room this week, about the prospects of breaking it up the middle?
Marc, if you ever get a chance to ask Brian:
We have had some problems with a linebacker lining up outside the DE, and they aren't being accounted for, so they arrive unblocked around Rick's or the RB's neck. Do the players recognize this, and are they taking steps to pick these guys up a little better? I know they hate to announce which man they're blocking, but,,,,,
The line looked a lot better pass blocking last week, but he was spot-on that zone rush blocking was causing some problems.
Marc, Great interview. If you are ever looking for questions from your audience:
1) The 'critics' say Rick stares down his receivers. I'd like to know if he has ever considered wearing a dark visor, and what the drawbacks are.
2) He has had some throws that were behind the receiver. Is that because of a route problem?
He is really showing improvement.
Is there anybody more deserving than Paul Chaney, to pop a big one this week, and this time not get it called back because of a bone-headed penalty?
Marc, You do the best analysis in Hawkeyeland. Everything I've read says Cent Mich was out of sync, and NAU is not UNI. AU's defense is said to be extremely fast, so we will have our hands full. One more game where penalties and turnovers will decide it.
I see a low scoring affair, 17-14 Iowa.
KF said on his radio program tonight that Tony is resting a nagging sprained ankle.
Marc, I don't know if it was by design, or what, but our pass rush seemed pretty anemic last week. We've got to get more pressure from a 4 man rush, or we are going to have a very long day with the LBs downfield covering receivers.
