"The aid group Doctors Without Borders has complained that the flight scheduling priorities of U.S. military controllers running the airport delayed the arrival of field hospitals, resulting in some deaths."

this torques me off more than anything else in that article. DWB can shove it. as a former USAF controller who has been in that type of situation, the only thing that "held them up" was the clusterf@ck at the beginning before our controllers were able to take control of the airport's operations... when civilian flights loaded with poorly organized volunteers were clogging up the ramps.

first thing in should have been emergency responders with the skills to provide security and pave the way for transporting food and medical supplies across rugged terrain. instead, the whole operation began with a bunch of medical crews who couldnt even set up triage facilities nor transport supplies where they were needed.

do NOT blame the military for their attempt at trying to organize what was an absolute mess into something remotely resembling effective logistics. that's just crass.

and if you think i'm ill-informed, just read up on all the articles about how there are already too many doctors there with nothing to do. their insistence on simply "showing up" is what has been making other groups' jobs, like the dissemination of food, water, supplies, and shelter, more difficult.

"when" is sometimes more important than "where" in disaster relief. you cant just ship in a bunch of doctors who dont know how to set up a shelter or unload cargo in a timely manner first or they end up creating a logjam. knowing when to get out of the way is often more important than simply showing up, and it's sad to see DWB waving the vanity flag on this one.

what you morons fail to realize is that islam is a religion, not a race.

the last person caught was not stereotypically "arab" or "muslim" and therefore would not have been caught under profiling, unless you want to add all african americans and southeast asians to the profiling mix.

sorry, but as an asian, i would prefer to not be harassed ANYWHERE simply because of the color of my skin. maybe i need to wear a cross on my arm to show people i'm not muslim? kinda like how the nazi's marked the jews in WWII...

as long as the general public maintains the attitude that it's "someone else" who should be responsible for teaching/punishing/controlling children, this problem will persist at increasing rates.

it's more about personal responsibility, respect, and integrity; if these values were being instilled in all children by their parents rather than being ignored as it is today, you wouldn't need "more manpower," "technology," or increased restrictions/laws/governance to deal with the result at a later date.

we simply have a real problem with people taking responsibility for their lives or actions, respecting ourselves or others, and doing the right thing regardless if anyone, or no one, is looking. until these core values are brought back and taught with the fervor they once were generations ago in households across america, mayhem will continue to increase.

why even have sympathy for the parents? children are simply the result of how they were raised.

incidents like these are the result of a combination of factors, but the largest of them is irresponsible parenting. have sympathy for all or none... otherwise it's like blaming dynamite for death and injury but sympathizing with the sap who lit the fuse.

there's a fine line between "being cautious" and living in fear.

but this is just another example that any and all terrorists are winning the war. as long as our daily lives are inconvenienced as the general public struggles within the grip of fear, the terrorists' message was delivered, whether death or destruction occurred or not.
