I totally agree. People like this just lack the proper education. People need to be taught about other races, cultures, and nationalities. It is sad because some students childishness affects the whole campus. Instances like such are examples of children being a product of their environment. The proper education starts from home with the parents. Parents need to teach their children at a young age the importance of political correctness especially when it is time for their children to go off to college. It is a shame that people’s ignorance causes such madness across a college. It is wrong insulting an entire race and they should be punished.
I agree with your response. I also find it hard to believe that a tribe was really lost for thousands of years. It really is amazing. Whenever I think of a Jewish person, I think a male or female with very fair skin but it is not impossible for these people to be Jewish. Jewish is a culture and they practice this culture. I think that this culture will survive and grow. As their children grow up and begin to learn the culture, it will began to expand especially with the exposure these people are now experiencing. Even though it is harder to keep the culture in the family because of all the interracial marriages and people marrying another person in a different culture, it will still survive.
The people should sue the school because it is unjust. Gay and lesbian relationships are more modernized now than they were before. It is now becoming legal in many states for gay and lesbian couples to be married and in some instances adopting a child and living as a family. Although it might not be legal in Mississippi for a gay or lesbian couple to be married, it is not illegal for the gay or lesbian couple to be together as a couple. I do agree that is an act of retaliation. It is obvious that the school officials are cancelling the prom because of one lesbian couple wanting to attend. People need to grow with the times and come up to speed with what is going on at this time. Gay and lesbian people have the same rights as any other couple. They are regular people too and should not be treated any differently than a heterosexual couple. People need to just put aside their own prejudices and go with the flow.
I feel that it is wrong to cancel prom just because a female student wants to have her girlfriend who she wants to escort her to the prom. There is no rules or regulations forbidding a student from bringing a person of the same sex as his or her escort. No one would not have even known to make a big deal of it if she would not have asked ahead of time. The high school prom is an important milestone in a student’s educational career and should not be taken away because one person wants to bring a person of the same sex nor should that same sex couple be forbidden to attend. It is just wrong. Prom is a tradition across the United States of America that most students go to high school all four years anticipated their senior prom night. Not only are the school officials hurting the lesbian couple, but the are hurting the senior class as a whole. Memories are what we hold on to dearly in life. The only memory that that senior class will have of their prom is how it was ruined by the school official because of one lesbian couple wanting to attend. People should not be allowed to impose their own prejudices and personal biases when it comes to instances as such.
The United States of America constitutional right is that all men are created and have innate rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In having liberty, people are given the right to be gay, lesbian. It is against the law to discriminate against one person or persons based solely on their sex, race, and/or orientation. There are no rules, regulations, or laws on being gay or a lesbian. Though it is outside of the majority of the societies norms, it should not be forbidden. There is no law forbidding people to be gay or a lesbian.
The massive genocide of the Native Americans is never talked about. In Sam’s class was the first time I heard of this genocide that was extensive and immense. I think that the genocide regarding the Native Americans should be published in the textbooks and taught in history classes starting at an early age. It seems that it is not taught because as Americans we are ashamed what the past. There are many skeletons in the American “closet” that come out. There’s nothing anyone can do about it because we cannot change the past, however we can change the future. We need to take that extra step to help out our people. I think it’s funny how Americans can go to Iraq and try to fix their country and help them make mends with each other and go to Afghanistan and try to fix their country, but all while our own country needs help. Even I was ignorant to the facts that there are so many Native American tribes and reservations in the United States of America. We should be taught at an early age their history and genocide because their history is our history.
I think there is no need for someone to take the blame for what happened in the past because that will not change anything. What we need to do is educate ourselves about the situation so history will not repeat itself. While it was wrong, the people who actually committed this heinous crime against the Native Americans of that time are not here to pay the price. Therefore, we need to take the initiative to help the Native Americans in building themselves up financially and educationally. We choose to support everyone else but our own people. It’s a shame we do this. There is no way that we should be over in other countries fighting other countries’ wars, when there is a war here in the United States of America that many people fight every day and some for all of there lives; that war is poverty. This extends beyond just the Native Americans. There are so many people in the United States of America who go to sleep hungry at night and it is a shame. Back to the Native Americans, they need help to grow and move forward. Education starts at a young age and has to extend beyond the classroom. Parents have to also take their parts in educating their children so they can understand the American history. I don’t agree that "America would have no soul”. We cannot dwell on the past especially when it was our ancestors who committed the crime. I do not think we should have to take responsibility for our ancestors’ wrongdoings. At this point, all we can do is change the present and the future. Once we stop pointing fingers at who we feel should take the blame, we can help make progress and move past this problem.
I think it is wrong that she was hired for wearing her scarf. If they had a certain “look policy”, she should have been told from the beginning. As Americans, we need to become more welcoming and understanding of other cultures that have found its way into the United States. When the word racism is talked about, it is automatically thought of to be between white and black people, but it goes far beyond that. I think this is a clear case of racism and discrimination. The “look policy” is discriminatory obviously if she was fired because she didn’t have a certain “look”. It is wrong and the company should be sued on the bases of racism, discrimination, and humiliation.
I understand both points of view. Sometimes people do not feel as if it is there place to say something. Some times people do not want to involve themselves in any altercations. I definitely think it depends on the circumstances as well. Some times when you involve yourself in other people’s business, you suffer as with that person and some people don’t feel like it is worth the hassle. In every situation, there are the people who risk it all to gain victory whether it is equality or something specific and then there are those who just sit back and will say nothing at all. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to express that opinion or not.
This article is very interesting to me. I think that there are issues that are far more important than a term used. I really don’t see how having the term “Negro” as an option on the questionnaire is offensive. It is political correct if people still use this term to describe themselves. This whole argument is irrelevant. I wish people in the United States of America would stop focusing on the little details and focus on the whole picture. The purpose of the United States Census Bureau is to distribute and assign congressional seats, Electoral College votes, and government funding. This should be the main focus. The United States Census Bureau should be concentrated on getting our country back to the way it was. We need to focus on getting our country back to be one of the richest countries in the world. I feel that people make a bigger deal of things that should really be irrelevant. The term “negro” is a term that is referred to people who identify themselves as black or African American people. I think that the term should be kept on the census bureau questionnaire if there are people in the United States who still identify themselves as a Negro. I agree that the country is evolving and is trying to become more and more political correct however it should be a while longer before the term “negro” is removed from the Census Bureau questionnaire. I think that 56,000 people identifying themselves as a Negro is more than enough for this term not to be removed at this time. Removing the term at this time will cause further inaccuracy in the results therefore the purposes of the United States Census Bureau would be handled inaccurately. I think the best way to gain more accuracy is for people to identify themselves as black with a blank space next to this for the person to be more specific on how they identify themselves. When the census bureau calculates all the results, they can classify these people as they see fit. The whole argument in itself, to me, is to try to draw things back to racism and racial segregation. We, the people of the United States, need to step out of the box and look from the outside in at times. We are so wrapped up in our own personal prejudices and insecurities that we don’t see that we’re look past the real problem. The real problem is getting help to the people that need it. That’s one of the purposes of the United States Census Bureau. Focusing on that instead of political correctness should be most important and will also help us in solving these crucial problems.
I think that France should not ban burqas, but require these women to remove their face coverings in certain situations. I think not showing your face in certain situations is dangerous. Because of safety reasons, I feel that women should be made to show their faces in certain situations such as when picking up there kids, when purchasing certain things such as bus and plane tickets. When these women cover up there faces completely, they would not be able to be identified if needed to be. This becomes a public danger. They should be able to cover their faces up to a certain degree but if asked to remove it for a specific reason; they should be a made to do so. They should be able to implement their right to cover their faces and bodies as long as it doesn’t harm others, but also be able to identify them by removing their face coverings when appropriate.
