First off, I am one of those teachers that lasted less than 5 years. I taught in the Federal Way SD for four years. When I was in college, I knew what I was getting into, and everyone I went to school with at the UW did as well. Low pay, long hours, it was to be expected. One does not become a teacher for the money, but for the nobility of it. Some teachers, like me, could not see us doing it until we retired, so we left for other pursuits. Just like with nearly every teacher strike, this one is supposedly not about money. Yet, money is always involved. If it is truly about class size and teacher re-assignment, then take the salary increase off of the table. And speaking about salary, I am not sure where you got mid to high 20s for a starting salary. I made more than that in 1996 in my first year of teaching. Even the salary schedule at the Tacoma School District's Website states that a starting teacher with a BA and no teaching experience makes $38,699 (that is just salary, not benefits). As for most teachers working the summer, from experience, this is not true. As a young teacher, I taught summer school for the money and experience. However, I was the exception, not the rule. Teachers who are going to stay in the profession make enough money to not have to work the summer and can enjoy the long vacation.

I think she did hit the truck in the front. If you look closely, the Nissan bumper is entangled in the truck front damage. I have to wonder how she hit this truck in the front unless she drifted left while not paying attention.

What a creepy coward. What happened to the part of her plan where she kills herself? Not so easy to take your own life, but somehow she could kill her kids. Very scary!

The company is kicking in $1600 a MONTH, not year, for health and welfare. This totals $19,193.

The GI Bill is not government funded. When you enlist, you are given the option of signing up for the GI Bill. If you choose to do so, the money for your education is taken as a payroll deduction. It works like an education savings plan. Hence, it is funded by the enlistees that have paid into the system. Not all veterans are eligible for the GI Bill. In fact, the majority of the people that I enlisted with opted not to get the GI Bill, and you cannot join later. It is a one shot deal.

I sit here at a loss for words. I went to school with Kurt from kindergarten until high school graduation. We played at each other's houses while growing up, played soccer together, and always tried to get a rise from his big sister. He truly was one of the nicest people I had ever known. Even though we lost touch after high school, and I had not seen him for 20 years, I still feel a loss for him being gone. The world lost a little of its shinyness today.

"they just want the option of having either a public vote or a council vote".

Are you kidding me! If they have the option of passing a tax hike with a council vote, do you believe that they will ever send it out for a public vote? Not a chance, especially with the track record of the public voting down such tax increases.

Timothy, there is no need to get angry about word usage. If you are so smart, how did you miss the other two incorrect usages of the synonyms? The correct usages would be "their parents", "now they're stealing", and "their attorneys". People in glass houses should not throw bricks.
