My heart goes out to his family and friends, but even more to the young man that was with him and watched his friend get hit. Prayers are with him and what he will feel for the rest of his life. It isn't his fault, but I am sure he is feeling guilt.
My daughter and I hiked there several times over last summer and we climbed that log jam with a 4 yo and a 1 yo in a hiking pack. It was pretty scary in a few spots. I don't think I would do it with the kids again, but love this area. My condolences to the families!
Where I live, kids that have problems with sex crimes or have abused other children are placed in therapeutic foster homes. Maybe he had never had these issues before that anyone had reported. Unfortunately, I hope there weren't other children who were younger than 9 who couldn't speak out!
I haven't fostered as many as grandpachuck, but all the ones I have have not been because of being "damaged goods", the parents have had or have drug problems.
I agree with you kobeandme! I do foster care and chose to take in younger kids as I have older bio kids. I worried about a teen boy doing something with my teen daughter or teen girl with my teen son! This story is very hearbreaking! Caseworkers are not always forthcoming with the information they provide, yet at other times I feel they provide too much information!!!
Bothers me so much when I drive through the Gorge to Portland and see so many people talking on phones, not paying enough attention and swerving over the lines. Even scarier is the fact my 16 year old went to Portland today for school shopping and was coming home around this time. Pay attention people!
The stretch of road the accident happened on has had ongoing work for several months and after driving this stretch every day, twice a day for work, it's a very narrow area since they have moved the road. There also is a lot of divots in the road as they have sanded off the original center lines and fog lines. If you are not paying close attention it will pull on your wheel when you pass this small area. I was stuck for a while this morning while they were cleaning it up and am thankful no one got hurt. I worry about people getting pushed off the road into the river on this stretch as you are right along there. Amazing he escaped with no injury. First thing I noticed was the gas tank several hundred feet away from where the truck actually was, and this was 2 hours after the accident.

Thank you very much renaira!!! Had I not been working, I would have done the same thing. Let's everyone stop automatically accusing everyone of being illegal mexicans that do all the crimes. This shows it's not that way.
I beg to differ on your comment R because maybe he really did not see if the truck was too tall. Ok, so he was drunk, throw the book at him for that, but don't say it's only because he was drunk. Let's see a pic of what he was driving. My 2 year old is very small.
