On the slight chance you're serious, the subjunctive mood is what he is trying to express. The phrase "If I was Iron Man" would be followed by a textual explanation of the comic "I would do this." This is not correct. The only way it could work would be if the sentence read "If I was Iron Man, I did this earlier." That doesn't make sense.
