For me last night it was to a degree new players still finding there way that caused us to under perform but the selection last night left us lacking in pace in midfield to support Cole.

Bentley, Noble and Nolan are all slow by modern day standards and with Lansbury initially playing off of Baldock and Cole we were over run in midfield. When we went back to 451 from an initial 433 we still struggled to get people up in support of Cole which is why in my view as the game progressed we went more and more route one.

In saying that we will improve when players get more used to each other

Was at Cardiff v Bristol C yesterday with a welsh mate and saw Spence and Maynard. Couple fo observations, firstly if bristol are going to be that poor all season I am not sure it will help Spence's development. He appeared to be on his own at times when they were under pressure.

Secondly Maynard. Whilst he scored an ok goal his work rate and general attitude was poor. In comparison to Earnshaw and Miller who are older and possibly past their best he was very much 2nd rate. Wouldn't want us to sign him if that is a typical day.

Honest interview by the manager on WHUTV. Overall a solid performance I thought but just a bit tepid upfront. The new players looked ok and for a first game we seemed to of gelled.

Downside, Ilunga and Green will both know they could of done better for the goal and for me Sears looked lost particularly when he had the ball. I would of had Barrera on for him much earlier.

No point in bitching, its early days and lets be honest we had more chances on goal in one game than we saw in the whole of last season.

Noticeable already how much more we are chasing down the ball when we don't have it. Applied more pressure in their half than I remember in any game last season.

Can't help feeling that Big Sam is the new Lou Macari.

Lots of posts saying on here that we dont care about the style, just get us up. Well we were never happy with Macari's different style were we?

In saying that though I do think his strong man management and discipline will be of great benefit to us because that has been missing for years and that may just swing my thoughts.

I wouldn't play any of the players who are on loan or at the end of their contracts on Sunday and play the kids instead.

As far as the management team goes I would go:

Manager - Hughton
Asst Manager - Dicks
1st Team Coach - Keen
Goalkeeper coach - Ludo

Hughton is more likely than O'Neil and is a vastly experienced coach and the other boys have the passion

I would hope that defending a lead and dropping deep won't be such a problem now that the team has a recognisable shape to it. The solidity of having O'Neil protecting his fullback gives us a much greater chance to defend and smother a team than we have had so far this season.

This obviously has to be as part of a balance of attacking and defending. It was good last night to finally see us leave a player up when Blackpool had a corner, which is something we've rarely done this season and has compounded the pressure we have put on ourselves in previous games
