I am all for mandatory civil service. Forget about the draft; make it a requirement - at least two years military service plus two additional service to the state. The two additional years could either be more military service or any civil service. Bring back the Work Corps, too.

First of all, the complainer of the story has a piece of private property. Fact two: Ms. Complainer's property is next to the trail. Message to complainer: Put up a fence and be happy that your land is not state-owned. You have all the privacy you purchased! If Ms. Complainer and other NIMBY people cannot get involved and informed about uses of PUBLIC land, then it is your own fault! I always laughed at people who complained about the empty lot next to them developing a Walgreens. If you (or your neighbors) didn't want the development in "your back yard," did you do anything about it? Could a corporation have been created to purchase the land on the behalf of neighbors to assure the municipalities didn't build a landfill!?!? Don't complain. This trail system adds value to the area. Don't like it? MOVE!
Just change the drinking age back to 18 or 19! If one is old enough to carry a 5.62mm weapon to kill in the theater of war, then I think it is appropriate for those people to decide for themselves if drinking alcohol has negative effects. Once again, the older folks get to make the rules for the younger folks because all the younger people could care less about the workings of the government. GET INVOLVED! Make a difference, and VOTE!
