I think he has packed it in until next year or he and James have a pact to go pro and less the mess behind.
Gameday is Corvallis, I guess be careful what you wish for!
Only one game, but these games need to be wins if you have post-season aspirations. Lots of poor decisions with the ball when they had the lead. Tough to see an opposing freshmen go for 30 while the Beav newcomers did not have any impact last night. It would also be interesting to hear what play Coach diagramed at the end because I doubt it was to have Calvin dribble for five seconds and get the ball stripped. It would have been nice to see a set play and at least a shot attempt.
The Cougs pretty much dominated the Beavs the same way that TCU did in the first game of the season minus James Rodgers in the special team game. To me it is not that complicated, you have to be able to stop the run and run the ball yourself to consistently win games. The Beavs have done that exactly one time this year against Cal, so 4-5 is about what you would expect (maybe even a little better when you look at the year to date stats).
Yeah,it seemed like everyone kind of blew off Kevin Riley getting injured as no big deal in the Cal game including the media. The victory was apparently Fools Gold as both sides of the ball showed major regression against UCLA. it will be interesting to see the ramifications of a 5-7 season after being in the Rose Bowl mix for two years in a row and the start slow, finish strong trend ending.
It may have been a homer clock at the end, but the Beavs were damn lucky to be tied anyway with Forbath missing his two previous attempts. Also, I would love to know why the secondary was not protecting the sideline given the game situation on that last play? My guess is Banker had them in a prevent thinking that Chow was going for a Hail Mary or maybe the defense was not thinking at all(fairly typical of this year). Quick 10 yard out executed flawlessly by a backup QB, best place kicker in the nation, end of story.
NCAA has waved the rule in the past. I believe North Texas won the Sun Belt with a 5-6 record a few years back and got to play in whatever bowl game was affiliated with their conference.
Banker also has a quote out there today something like "we don't seem that bad" when asked about his defense being ranked 119th out of 120 teams. Now with Robertson's quote there seems to be either shell shock or denial going on with the D!
This is the first season in a long time where I think the Beavers are actually a little short in talent at certain positions. After six games, if it was just execution than I would think those not executing would be sitting. The defense is really struggling against all oppositon and I don't see a lot of answers. Look for the occassional key turnover and hope the offense can outscore the opposition.
Sorry, I missed this on the first pass. Thanks for confirming that the game will be on FCS.
