Wikipedia is a source of some great, factually accurate information. However, there have been many a hoax, I agree, so it is best to tread lightly here when looking for what you need. Good old fashioned books are still the main method of my madness. :-)

Who cares about an old name? All I care about is how they represent England and the Queen embraces the country and does a good job. Even many republicans give her credit.

It is pretty obvious that much of the resentment towards England is because of the German lineage in the Royal family. The constant bantering about the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha name is proof. The Georges were not popular in England and they barely paid any attention to the country. But Queen Victoria considered herself English through and through. She helped her children make important dynastic marriages in other nations in order to give England more allies. The Queen thought always of England! So did Albert! The royal family has been extremely English ever since.

I know that WWI and WWII didn't help, but it's time to let it go! The Royals are about as German as Bertie Wooster.

The UK is not non-religious. There is a very strong religion there right now, it just isn't Christianity like it was a generation ago.

The thing that saddens me is that while Britain is being tolerant and diverse, others do not reciprocate - hence my "thought bubble" mid-post. What would happen if someone countered what the Privy council ruled? Would that be seen as racist/zealous? There would be no understanding if it went the other way.

As far as the Scots are concerned, I feel disappointed that they dislike the English so much. Of course, there are reasons, I'm sure, but it is sad regardless. While other races around the world move at a frightening speed and gather strength in unity, the people of the British isles want to separate and have nothing to do with each other.

I agree with you. I think she is less attractive now, unfortunately.
