What is your current firmware? 4.26.08 is very old BB, I am not sure if 4.2.1 will work good on that, download 3.1.3 ipsw stock firmware so you upgrade your Bb to a newer but unlock able BB. On the main question, YES pwnagetool does upgrade and preserve your BB! Regards maicsa2

In Cydia, what Shsh blobs show you as save for your device? Sometimes Cydia save those blobs for you! If shows 4.1, even if you have a new bootroom 3GS, you can come back to it. If you don't have any save, then your only solution is update to latest ipsw! Your current problem is in the firmware itself so nothing else would work!! Regards, maicsa2

You can't kick out of recovery mode with tiny umbrella!! Doesn't work, you will need to restore to 4.1 and then use if necessary tiny umbrella. Regards, maicsa2

Do you have the Shsh blobs save for you 4.1? If so go ahead and try the 4.2.1. If no, is your 3GS new or old bootroom? Check on the serial the digit 3,4 and 5, the third is the year that was made, 4 and 5 is the week. If your is 9 and before week 45 is an old bootroom. if your is and old bootroom go ahead otherwise I will say no for now. Regards, maicsa2

You need a custom 4.2.1 firmware made with pwnagetool. Redsn0w only jailbreaks you iphone. But try first the notifications off, it works on mine. You loose Facebook, messenger and other minimal notifications, so it is not that important. Regards, maicsa2

You got the Error 1600 because you try to restore to a stock ipsw, if you update your Bb to 6.15, from now on you need a custom firmware made with pwnagetool on a MAC. Error 23 can also mean a dead battery! You need a good charged phone for a restore!! Regards, maicsa2

Do you have the shsh blobs for 4.1 ipsw saved? If so cook a custom 4.1 firmware with pwnagetool. For the battery issue, after the restore, set your iphone as new device, don't use your old personal settings, there is where the problem is!! Regards, maicsa2

You can find out if you are new or old bootroom with your serial number, search Google for the answer. I not sure if is the 3 and four digit, but it is something like that. To solve the battery issue, all you need to do, is that after the restore or update, you set your iphone as new device. Don't use your old personal settings.
