I've always held the Coast Guard in extremely high esteem but I lost a lot of respect for the organization when I first heard about the charges and the situation. I think that if I were in this lieutenant's position, my first action after the charges were dismissed would have been to submit my resignation.

A couple of things. I had only heard that the handgun belonged to the mother and that was the basis for her arrest along with the half-million dollar bail.

But, you are correct in that the law does not (and probably couldn't) prohibit a felon from being in close proximity to firearms. However, most of the petitions that I've been aware of are for the restoration of rights which includes voting, firearms, etc. And I don't know how often they are successful.

One problem with Schram's position on this issue is that the boy's mother is a convicted felon and shouldn't have had a weapon in the first place.

Now there's an endorsement that any politician would be proud to receive. With luck, he may even be able to get Sarah Palin to back him. Perhaps if he offers her the VP slot.

Low key and meaningless? Perhaps not. This game is supposed to be played by the best players in the NFL and it should be an honor to be included. From that standpoint, you'd think that the players would want to go all out and stand out. If not, then you're right. The game is meaningless and should be dropped.

I love football but moving the so-called pro bowl to the week before Super Bowl was a disgustingly transparent ploy to bring more money into the NFL before the season ended. Last nights event should have been titled the Powder Puff Bowl. It was that pathetic! I turned it off with about 5 minutes left in the 1st quarter and I will never again watch even that much.
