<title>Rick Smith : Here Come the Potentialists</title>
<link>http://ricksmith.me/2009/11/here-come-the-potentialists/#IDComment43485628</link>
<description>Just listened to your excellent &amp;ldquo;Career Setback&amp;hellip;&amp;rdquo; interview with UofC; it got me thinking about a grand concept I&amp;rsquo;ve been developing over the years which I call &amp;lsquo;Online Human Capital&amp;rsquo;. On day 1 of graduate school (also UofC) our Dean spoke at great lengths about the power of &amp;lsquo;networks&amp;rsquo;&amp;hellip;.this was well before the online networks of today&amp;rsquo;s time (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn) &amp;hellip;.and more about the people you chose to email, call or meet over the years&amp;hellip;.the people in your network one node away. Since then, I&amp;rsquo;ve become obsessed with the power of online nodal relationships; and how to organize and extrapolate from them in order to produce &amp;lsquo;Human Capital&amp;rsquo; opportunities. In this pursuit, I&amp;rsquo;ve spent several years as an executive bringing web2.0 startups to life&amp;hellip;and now after learning what you&amp;rsquo;re doing at World 50 I felt compelled to reach out directly to see if there might be a professional opportunity for me to work with such an exciting engine! This blog seemed the most appropriate place to reach you&amp;hellip;.given the title of &amp;lsquo;potentialist&amp;rsquo; which is exactly how I would describe myself and this inquiry :) </description>
