Keep arguing over petty $$ amounts. You know what a .5% increase in sales tax will do for the sale of a Boeing airplane? An EXTRA $1.45M for the state. Boeing made $3.8B last year after tax... The state lost more than $3.8B last year. If the state continues to falter and go towards bankruptcy, Boeing will leave and will take with it THOUSANDS OF JOBS. Keep complaining about paying an extra .5%

It adds $100 to the price not a grand. Fortunately for the working class of Washington, we are one of 7 states with no personal income tax. The average Washingtonian pays $2743 in state taxes a year, in comparison to Alaska, a state with no sales tax but an income tax? They pay $5054/year or 84% more than us!

If items were exempt from sales tax, it would be naïve of us to think that the allocated budget for educational system would stay the same… So, if you want to skip out on paying $2 in sales tax for that t-shirt, be my guest, but I don’t want to hear you complaining when tuition costs go up another 45%

As a percent of income, the average Alaskan pays 11.67% in taxes/year, Washington’s is nearly half, at 6.48%. Unlike these small states, Washington has tens of millions of consumers who pay sales tax on a daily basis. The majority of Washingtonians purchase their necessities at local markets and stores, paying sales tax on nearly every transaction. Places like Alaska and Montana, where stores are fewer and further between, don’t have nearly as high of a volume of taxable transactions.

A.All the services provided by the state costs money! Although some of you may be strong advocates for the scaling back of government, government isn’t the root of all evil, after all the only country in the whole world without a legitimate government is… Somalia.
-- Last year $13b lost- if that debt-burden was evenly distributed across every man, woman and child in the state, we would each have indebted $1928 last year alone.
- Retail sales tax is Washington’s principal tax source, put more simply, retail sales tax is the money maker for the state.
