The workers were harrassed into signing the cards for the union. Union workers went to their homes and would not leave until the card was signed. Once the union got in without a secret vote, the workers petitioned the NLRB to hold a secret election and the union was voted out. I believe the company name was Dana something or other. Employees cannot be fired for organizing efforts. They can be fired for not doing their jobs during working hours, but any meetings or organizing efforts are protected. This is just an excuse because union membership is down and the unions have to resort to force to get members. My representative said companies were holding meetings to discourage unionizing. Duh, the companies can't give the workers their side. With a secret ballot management nor the union would know what your vote was. If the support at home is not there what can the teachers do? How many parents run to school because the teacher is too hard on their child, or make them do their homework, or even make sure they go to school? I live in the Detroit area, and yes we have a lousy school system, but we have even lousier parents. I agree the unions make it worse for good teachers and give bad teachers a pass.
