As soon as he was elected, he gave a speech in which he told the electorate that he thanked them for their trust, but that they mustn't believe he would do everything for them that they wanted, unless it served the interests of the country first. That's exactly idea behind Congressional elections. All of sudden, though, people, long before us, got caught up in what their Representative or Senator could do for them... The upshot of all this is that the people is the ultimate cause of the corruption in Congress. Most of us haven't been part of the corruption... we simply didn't pay attention, and they've simply gotten more brazen about it. The only way to stop it is to prove that the majority of us are not corrupt, and that we won't stand for it in them. By the way, Britain has it's problems in this area as well. While Chavez uses the police and the military to stifle his dissent, Obama has most of the media firmly in his corner, attacking the dissenters with a viciousness I've never seen before. The falsehoods spread by the media about the tea parties are incredible. He's been in Mexico, perpetrating the lie about where the guns are coming from, and I saw an item on Fox News this morning that the White House is standing by the use of the statistic, knowing its a lie. And the real key to tyranny isn't force... it's controlling the sources of information. His administration is forcing financial institutions to take TARP money, then controlling their pay scales, then making them ask for permission to pay it back. The EPA has issued a warning that they will regulate the greenhouse gases if Congress doesn't act, a clear Executive fiat.
