Single Dad Laughing : If you give a child a cookie...

There are so many to choose from... Ok, here's one. My husband took our son (8) to the bank so he could deposit some of his piggy bank money into his account. We usually do it for him, so this was new to him. He started to grill the teller about where she was going to put his money. She told him they put it in the back. "Where exactly in the back?' he wanted to know. They told him they have a great big vault and it would go in there to stay safe. "Where exactly in the vault will you put it? Because when I become a bank robber I don't want to steal my own money." The poor tellers where dying of laughter! Before leaving the bank he decided it would be better to be a teller because he'd have easier access to all the money and wouldn't have to be a bad guy to get it.____Ahhhh...the logic of kids!

Single Dad Laughing : Old people say the wisest things #2

The best advice I ever got came from my dad when I told him I wasn't sure about my then boyfriend because he looked scruffy (he was a mechanic and had long hair). Dad said, " That's it? If that's the only problem you have with him, then you don't have a problem." He was right. After 16 years we are still going strong. He later cut his hair and his hands came clean (with much work) in time for the wedding. He still treats me the way he did back then--like he's the luckiest man alive to have me. Looks come and go, so does money, but a man's character is what matters when choosing "the one".

Single Dad Laughing : My first and last "attempt" to spank my kid

Yes, Kendra, it was intended to be humorous. Before this blog got so big, it was a humor blog and we had a good time joking back and forth. There were inside jokes and sarcasm galore! It was a fun place to be and we all understood completely absurd comments like this one to be just that...absurd.

Single Dad Laughing : Noah\'s quotable quotes

I've started writing some down, too. Then for Christmas I put together a shutterfly book with photos from the past year and add in some of the quotes and stories and give it as a gift to my parents. They LOVE them! We also keep one for ourselves. Our kids love taking them out and looking through them, too.

Single Dad Laughing : Why Facebook should never add a \"dislike\" button.

I actually don't like the thumbs down buttons on here. I think we can either agree with what the person says or keep quiet and move on. I'm not saying we need to agree on everything, but if we don't, we can leave our own comment rather than putting someone else down for their opinion.

I don't agree with you. I would much rather live in a world where people are tender and actually care what their words do to someone else. I would not want to be in a world where you say anything and just expect the other person will let it roll off their back if it was hurtful to them. I certainly don't want to be surrounded by insensitive and callous people. That said, I do agree that (at least on FB) you can surround yourself with only those who would build you up, limiting the amount of "dislikes" you would get. But having a dislike button would encourage the callousness of not caring what others think or how they are affected by our words.

Single Dad Laughing : Golfing in winter

DUH! That makes sense. I don't know why I didn't think of phys ed as a college course. I was envisioning someone studying to be a doctor or businessman and being required to take a course on golf. Thanks for answering my stupid question. :o)

Domestically Challenged - Parenting Tips from Author Alana Morales : 12 Days of Christmas - Day 1: Simplify Holiday Cooking

I like to keep up with my dishes and keep my counters cleaned off. That way I am ready for anything, even last minute guests or mixing up a batch of cookies. It's so much nicer to reach into the cabinets and find the right dish because it's all put away and ready for me. It's wonderful to come home from shopping and have clear counters to put my bags on. Plus my mind seems less cluttered if my kitchen is clean.

Single Dad Laughing : A true friend (and a boys night out)

My parents always go to a nursing home and ask how many people have no family to visit them. Then they ask for what each resident needs and go out and buy it for them anonymously. They even did this while they were driving truck. They would just stop in at a facility they were passing by. I have always thought this was a special way to help those who had been forgotten at Christmas.

Single Dad Laughing : We see what we want to see

WOW! You do have a full plate. Your kids are blessed to have a mom who works so hard for them. I wanted you to know that I don't think homeschooling is the best thing for every family. There are families that are disorganized and wouldn't do their children justice by trying to homeschool and families like yours where it just wouldn't work and families that think it's not best for their kids. It definitely takes a huge commitment and believing you are doing the best thing for your kids for it to work.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with school. I think you are right about your parents not being prepared. It takes a LOT of effort to homeschool. It is defintely not the lazy route, if done right. Were you an only child? I have three and they learn how to treat each other and others through trial and error. They are learning how to control their emotions and their actions in different situations. I have found homeschooling is an extension of parenting in general. We also have days when all of us want to throw in the towel and run away to a far off place. It's not perfect, but neither am I and neither are my kids. But I still think they have the best teacher and environment available to them.
