I don’t agree that Ramirez is not trying. When you’re struggling, it’s a tough game to play. I never doubt a guy is trying at the plate. I just comment on the results.

Cashner is not going to be a starter. He hasn't show the endurance or the pitch count control to go deep in games. If that doesn't improve, he has to be a member of the late inning crew. That seems like better option for him, in my opinion.

I like Smoltz, but wasting time bringing a 43 year old closer who could break down any moment is what teams that don't win championships do. To not give a guy like Cashner a shot and instead go with Smoltz would be a waste of talent in the system.
