What an idiot. He broke the law. I'll bet people who complain about IC and enforcement of the law don't live here (I do). Many people who come to Hawkeye games come to party, get drunk, trash IC, then drive back to their suburban homes in CR, Waterloo and Des Moines an probably beat their wife and kick their dog. How 'bout if I rent a house next to yours and have a house party every weekend from dawn to dusk and then some complete with live blaring music, all you can drink beer and stupid, fat, loud football fans who pee on your bushes and smash your mailbox.

Restoring the river manually would be a waste of time and money. Let it recover naturally. And do not rebuild the dam. What a gigantic waste of $$$$ and ruins the environment. BTW I am an avid paddler. http://outside-blog.away.com/blog/2010/07/iowa-da...
Kayakers have come up with another idea: convert old dams into whitewater parks, concrete structures built into a river to create rapids. And it’s gaining traction. Eighty-five new parks popped up in the past ten years and about 25 more are in various stages of construction. Most dams costs between $50,000 and $2.5 million to convert into a park, or roughly half the cost of refurbishing or removing dams. That price point spurred cities well off kayakers' radars, like Flint, Michigan, and Springfield, Iowa, to commit to installing parks.

Has anyone (elected official or citizen) talked about the benefits of NOT rebuilding the dam? Besides not costing anything, and a new canoe route, dam removal restores the natural flowing character of a stream and restores essential ecological processes in the river. Large segments of previously inaccessible water may be open to use by a variety of fish species. In addition, dam removal and sediment management can restore buried fish spawning habitat and other critical stream habitat. Overall, dam removal benefits riverine fish by: (1) removing obstructions to upstream and downstream migration; (2) restoring natural riverine habitat; (3) restoring natural seasonal flow variations; (4) eliminating siltation of spawning and feeding habitat above the dam; (5) allowing debris, small rocks and nutrients to pass below the dam, creating healthy habitat; (6) eliminating unnatural temperature variations below the dam (American Rivers 2003). from http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-30301_31...

As soon as i hit Cedar Copids I lock in on double nickel. This gives me move time to enjoy absolutely astounding roadside scenery, check my email, light a smoke, take a drink and adjust the volume on my radio. CR, ain' t it a beautiful, peaceful, progressive place to call home? Why there's so much to do for the eager: beer drinking bars, smulekoffs, westdale, roller dam fishin, check village, and of course the wonderfully vibrant downtown. I could write about all the stupendous places to go and things to do but that would take up too much space. I am so glad I live her and not some boring, drab, regressive thinking place like Boulder, Seattle, MInneapolis, Iowa City, Portland or dare I say Des Moines?

All you people who make disparaging comments about bikes and bike riders (look that word up in the dictionary) are complete morons. You're the kind of people who should not be on the road. I'll bet you tailgate, zip off the line, flash your brights and veer for deer too. I'll say it again, bikes have just as much right on the road as cars. Give me verifiable proof is you think you know otherwise. If not, shut up and go back to watching NASCAR. You're real tough hiding behind that computer and behind that gas-guzzling., war-producing vehicle. Why don't you get out and challenge a biker the next time you see one. I'll bet you won't because you're chicken, fat and scared. Besides this biker was on a bike trail. If your'e gonna comment, read the article!
